Now in @aeonmag, my attempt to reckon with the complicated legacy of Walter Mignolo and his brand of decoloniality.

I wrote about China Miéville’s The Rouse for Jacobin. I liked it a lot and have things to say.
“The Rouse” follows a secret British effort to weaponize ghosts amid the Cold War and decolonization.
A supernatural spy thriller, a Marxist meditation on history, and a stylistic triumph, China Miéville’s novel is a masterwork two decades in the making. jacobin.com/2026/10/china-mi…
Mignolo? Full of shit? No way! aeon.co/essays/who-is-walter…
Didn’t expect Mignolo to respond to my piece! Wish he actually engaged with the argument tho instead of just repeating his general critique of Marxism & making observations about where I’m based (making me “euro-centred”?). He’s just reinforcing my point!

Spent a few weeks earlier this year roaming a Hollywood almost entirely reoriented around the production of “microdramas,” which are kind of like soap operas except they’re short and completely demented and optimized for your phone. Started as one kind of sad story and ended as another, differently sad kind of story. You can read it now in @NYTmag nytimes.com/2026/10/06/magaz…
