Mike Ditka was born Michael Dyczko. His father was a welder. The family was Polish and Ukrainian, in the coal and steel country of western Pennsylvania, and nobody around them could pronounce Dyczko. So they changed it to Ditka. Rest in peace to the legend. His family announced today that Mike Ditka has passed away at 86 years old. He was born in Carnegie and grew up in Aliquippa, and he got out of there the way kids from those towns got out, which was football. The Chicago Bears took him fifth overall in 1961 out of Pitt. Before him a tight end was basically a sixth lineman who caught something once in a while. As a rookie Mike Ditka went for 1,076 yards and 12 touchdowns, which no tight end had ever done, and the job has never gone back to what it was. He spent six seasons playing for the Bears, and in 1963 he won the NFL Championship with them. Then he and George Halas fell out over money, and on his way out of town Ditka said the old man threw nickels around like manhole covers. Halas traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles in April of 1967 for a quarterback. He finished playing with the Dallas Cowboys. He caught a touchdown in Super Bowl VI. He retired in 1973, Tom Landry put him on the staff, and he got another ring there as an assistant. And then he wrote George Halas a letter. He told him he regretted the way it had ended in Chicago. He told him that when he was ready, he wanted to come back and coach the Bears. Halas gave him the job in 1982. Here is what Ditka said when he got there. "Give me three years, and if you walk with me, we'll get to the dance." They went 15 and 1 in 1985 and beat the New England Patriots 46 to 10 in Super Bowl XX. Here is how he described that team. "There are Smiths and there are Grabowskis. We're the Grabowskis." That is a welder's kid talking. In 1988 he had a heart attack during the season and blamed it on stress. He was back in weeks. The Bears went 12 and 4 and he was Coach of the Year for the second time. Chicago fired him in January of 1993. He took the New Orleans Saints job in 1997 and it did not work. He traded every pick New Orleans had in 1999, plus the following year's first rounder, to move up and take Ricky Williams. They let him go after a 3 and 13 season. None of that is what anybody is going to remember. In 1988 he became the first tight end ever put into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He is the only man who was part of both of the last two championships the Chicago Bears have won, as a player in 1963 and as the head coach in 1985. The Bears retired his number 89 in 2013. They changed the name so the neighbors could pronounce it. He turned it into the one that whole city still shouts. For more stories like this, follow us on any platform @thesportsontap

#RIP Mike Ditka A fan called Mike Ditka a baby on a call in radio show. Iron Mike responds by giving the guy his office address and telling him “You tell me what time and when and I’ll whip your ass” 😘 #DaBears

The younger generation is extremely benevolent. They want no one to go hungry, everyone to have housing, universal Healthcare, free phones, subsidized utilities, free college tuition, and universal income. So, isn't it ironic that as soon as someone suggests they pay higher taxes to support retirees on Social Security, their immediate response is: "Fuck that, I'm not paying for your shit!" It's almost like they are beginning to see the dark side of Socialism.

Re the Last Ditch circus: a friend asked me how and why strict masking became orthodoxy on parts of the far left. This was my answer. There's a lot more to it, obviously, but I think this works as a capsule summary.
As a public service, I'm tweeting screenshots of the whole of THAT Boston Globe article, which is sadly paywalled, because it really is just that extraordinary and hilarious. These people are not well. Interesting that the only voice of reason is the trans woman bartender. (1/4)

James Talarico is getting the full statewide makeover: softer language, Bible references, careful camera angles, and a campaign trying to introduce Texas to a reasonable young moderate. Small problem. Old James keeps showing up with receipts. In 2020, Talarico thanked activists for linking climate change with “white supremacy and capitalism.” He called capitalism an oppressive system worth dismantling. Then he compared Texas oil to cassette tapes and said it was “not gonna last.” That clip should look fantastic in West Texas. The makeover crew can polish the bio all they want. They still have to explain why the guy running to represent Texas once talked about one of its biggest industries like a dead technology waiting for the trash can. Then there’s the religion package. Talarico leans hard into Christianity while pushing some of the most progressive social politics in the race. He declared trans children “perfect,” “beautiful,” and “sacred.” At church, a transgender pride flag hung behind the cross while he preached. After Roe fell, he urged Biden to take “extraordinary steps,” including leasing federal property to abortion clinics and hiring abortion providers as federal employees. And the anti-billionaire warrior? His campaign was perfectly happy benefiting from millions tied to billionaire Reid Hoffman while Talarico complained about “billionaire-controlled government.” This is why campaign consultants hate archives. They can rewrite the website. They can swap out slogans. They can teach a candidate which words scare suburban voters and which Bible verse tests well with focus groups. They cannot send a cease-and-desist letter to his own mouth. The new James Talarico has a branding problem. The old James Talarico keeps testifying against him. (article below)

Actually, we do know why K-12 educational test scores and grades are declining. This is the first generation where kids have a massive number of teachers more focused on critical theory, pride flags and wokeness than they are on basic math and reading (let alone the harder stuff). At the same time the left has created policies to allow disruptive students to be coddled during class time AND they break from lessons to allow translation for students who don’t speak English. Both of which end up hurting the other students. On top of that they’ve begun to attack gifted programs because not enough minorities of the correct shade of skin are in them, all in the name of "equity", which once again punishes excellent kids of all races. All incentives to be excellent are being removed from schools in favor of outcomes where everyone feels good on the inside. Then you have the acceptance of failure in the name of "equity" where we graduate kids who can’t even read because it might hurt their feelings to hold them back and force some accountability. Beyond that, the average teacher has a lower IQ today than they did 20 years ago (hence the crazy politics most of them have) and we culturally allow disgusting things to go on in schools. Once you get past that, the 2 largest teachers unions are both more focused on getting raises for themselves, getting pervy books into kids hands and funneling money to Democrat politicians than they are on good outcomes for kids. The truth is that we keep giving them more money and the outcomes get worse each year. This is what happens when nearly all of academia becomes a political operation to seed and serve an ideology, instead of serving kids. Oh and tests. The woke intelligentsia decided that tests are racist because white kids and Asians performed better on average so they threw out a bunch of the tests that actually challenge kids and identify talent that needs to be fostered. This had the added bonus of once again zapping any competitive spirit or fire to be the best from kids. And I almost forgot, the industry made kids their guinea pigs for gender confusion, masking, lockdowns and isolation learning where they didn’t see their peers for a long time. This had enormous psychological impacts. What exactly are you confused about?
No one really knows why K-12 educational declines have been happening. And worse, no one in the K-12 community really has a plan to address them.

Wokeness was an attack on liberty and public safety, some of the specific bad policy goals were open borders, mandatory masking, defunding the police, supporting riots, and forced institutional struggle sessions based on race and gender.
Yeah. All these Democrats suddenly disavowing "Woke 1.0". Which part do they actually disagree with?

All it took to collapse an entire sect of gender ideology was two alpha males declaring they identify as women and entering the WNBA draft. I’m going to show you the genius of what they just did. The two ex-NBA players Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White didn’t argue against the absurd premise that gender is fluid. That’s a losing play. The better play is to enter the illusion and destroy it by taking the illusion to the logical extreme. So that’s exactly what they did. They embraced the premise that gender is fluid and took it to the logical extreme by declaring for the WNBA draft. Now they are forcing liberals to face the absurdity of their own ideology. Gender ideology’s core claim is that sex is irrelevant and identity is sovereign. “Trans women are women.” Self-ID is enough. Now the WNBA, which is in many ways a major liberal institution, faces a big dilemma. They have to either: A: Allow the two to enter the WNBA draft. Admit “woman” is just a feeling (This is absurd and destroys the product). or B: Draw a line and say they don’t qualify. That concedes self-ID is not enough and biology matters. This would be a public abandonment of the liberal doctrine. Either path burns the ideology to the ground, which is hilarious. Take notes everyone. Two dudes literally just made one of the greatest persuasion plays of the decade.
JUST IN: WNBA Commissioner announces the league is meeting to review what a woman is, after multiple former NBA stars announced plans to join the league.

🚨 Anthony Fauci literally wrote in his diary Covid was only a 0.2% fatality rate Anthony Fauci is confronted over writing in his diary that Covid 19 was essentially just the flu but then and locked down for a global pandemic and mandated vaccines “Dr. Fauci, you admitted in your own diary that COVID was nothing more than a flu — Are you ever going to admit that you killed millions of people through your poison shots? — When are you going to take responsibility for your mishandling of COVID Dr. Fauci?“ Here is exactly what was written in Anthony Fauci’s diary “acting like a bad influenza in its transmissibility” “and that the case fatality rate was “more like 0.2-0.3% rather than 2.0%.” It’s time to arrest Anthony Fauci for crimes against humanity He literally wrote that Covid only had a 0.2% fatally rate and then tried everything possible to force everyone to get these experimental dangerous vaccines

Giving kids under 18 the covid shot was insane. And all of us who said it was insane were ripped to shreds by the “experts.” Here Fauci acknowledges it doesn’t make sense in his private diary. All while continuing to insist parents get their kids the shot. And boosters.
In which Fauci mentions that the FDA might have problems approving boosters for under 18s because of risk of myocarditis... and just sails right past.

Americans buried parents alone. Children lost years of childhood. Families watched businesses they had built over a lifetime disappear. And while the country suffered, Anthony Fauci was writing in his diary about becoming “the most famous and talked about person in the country” and marveling that his fame was “explosive and really unimaginable.” There was no camera he couldn’t find. No interview he couldn’t give. No American life he wouldn’t micromanage. He said one thing to the public, and would write the opposite in his diary. Today, when the country finally demanded answers, the man who never stopped talking suddenly went silent.
Dr. Anthony Fauci announces he will be pleading the 5th to every question Congress has: “Although it pains me to do so…I will invoke my right under the 5th Amendment of the Constitution to refrain from answering your questions."

Thankfully I have numbers rather than opinions. The average number of days per year in the U.S. reaching 95°F was ~18% lower during the 60-year period 1961 to 2020 compared to 1901 to 1960. The number of days reaching 100°F and 105°F have also declined since 1895.

Because it was always about control and compliance, power and profit, not public health or science.
Brian Roberts is the CEO/Chairman of Comcast (parent of Universal Pictures/NBCUniversal) with a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Brian had zero medical, scientific, epidemiological, or public health qualifications - just elite business/finance background. Under Roberts’ leadership, Comcast/NBCUniversal aggressively promoted vaccination through awareness campaigns, content, and celebrity amplification while studios implemented mandates for productions. The Wharton Economics B.S. media mogul with no relevant expertise turned one of Hollywood’s biggest empires into a vaccine compliance machine, leveraging platform power for mandates and uptake. A business/finance guy who green-lit the jab machine at Comcast with no medical background, just corporate muscle and “public service” PSAs.
