Long before modern conservation, Maasai warrior traditions carried meanings that went far beyond the hunt.
Among some Maasai communities, facing a lion with a spear was historically associated with courage, warriorhood and a transition into adulthood. A warrior who successfully speared a lion could earn a distinctive lion name, becoming part of his identity and community story.
It wasn't simply about killing a lion. It was connected to bravery, social recognition, age-set traditions and the responsibilities expected of a warrior.
Culture changes with time, and Maasai communities today are diverse. Understanding these traditions means appreciating their historical and cultural meaning while also recognizing the importance of wildlife conservation today.
History isn't always about what we would do now. Sometimes, it's about understanding why people did what they did then.

Two weeks ago I installed solar flood lights with motion sensors at back in the village due to theft.
Reports reaching me are making me happy 😁. Apparently they say I joined a cult and some evil spirits light the lamps when someone passes by my gate. Am loving it.

For someone in East Africa, investing in stocks can be a powerful way to build long-term wealth.
Instead of keeping all your money in a savings account or spending everything you earn, you can put part of it into businesses you believe can grow and potentially earn through capital appreciation and dividends.
Stocks can help you:
• Build wealth over time
• Create an additional source of income through dividends
• Participate in the growth of local and global companies
• Protect your money from losing purchasing power over the long term
• Develop financial discipline and a habit of investing consistently
You don't need to start with millions. Start with what you can afford, learn how the market works, diversify, and think long term.
The goal isn't to get rich overnight. It's to make your money work alongside you while you build your future.
Earn. Save. Invest. Learn. Repeat.

I’ve been seeing quite a number of posts from Rift tea farmers who are clearly not happy.
Some say they’re ready to walk away from tea farming after the latest bonus payment, claiming they received peanuts compared with farmers in regions like Central and Nyanza.
If you’re from the Rift and you’re in the tea business, tupe uhondo kamili.
What exactly happened here?
Why the big difference in payments?
And who should farmers hold accountable?
Tea farmers, talk to us.
