One of the coolest things about ESUHSD is seeing new courses reflect our students’ interests and culture. The Mariachi class at Overfelt High is a great example—students learning music, teamwork, and tradition all at once. Proud to see programs like this growing in our district!

On this MLK Day, I’m thinking about our students—their brilliance, resilience, and limitless potential. Dr. King believed in the power of education to build a more just and loving world. The work continues—and it begins with us. #MLKDay #BelongingInSchools #FutureLeaders

Today we honor the courage and sacrifice of all who have served. As a former youth leader with the American GI Forum, I saw firsthand the strength and selflessness of our veterans and their families — a reminder of why service and leadership matter. 🇺🇸 #VeteransDay

I’ve always known this work matters. Hearing students at the Latino Health Summit today reinforced it. 25% of our county is Latino, 40% under 25, 37% of high schoolers report depression. We have work to do—and at East Side, we are committed to uplifting every student.

This morning was a full circle moment. A City Year corps member stood up after a panel n said: “You were my middle school principal.” We’re both from East San José — now back in the schools that shaped us. Representation matters. So does community. 💛 #FullCircle #EastSanJosé
