NEW: A judge slammed the Trump administration for corrupting what has long been the DOJ's "crown jewel" — its Civil Rights Division.
The ruling, which blocked the department's sweeping hunt for state voter data, rebuked its invocation of laws meant to safeguard minority voting rights. demdock.com/4s0BoJ9

Trump has claimed that states are “merely an ‘agent’ for the federal government” and they must do what the president tells them.
“Almost nothing in that statement is correct as a matter of law,” Marc Elias says.

Higher-than-normal sea levels are expected along parts of B.C.'s coast later this month due to a Kelvin wave, a large movement of ocean water. Elevated sea levels can increase coastal flood risk during high tides and storms.

❤️ IT’S OFFICIAL — WE BOUGHT A FARM! 🐴🏡
After 14 years of dreaming, working, and believing, Unbridled Spirits Thoroughbred Retirement Ranch finally has a forever home to call our own!
We could not have made this possible without Rick Dawson, owner of 2022 Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike, and Mary Hoffman, dedicated aftercare advocate and beloved sponsor and heart human of I Am Awesome.
These two champions helped lead the way for USTRR, and we are forever grateful.
I wish we could bridge this gap for every Thoroughbred and work together to ensure aftercare organizations have the financial resources needed to provide lifelong, compassionate care.
Today, we celebrate a farm.
Tomorrow, we keep fighting for aftercare and the horses who gave us everything.
USTRR has a forever home. And this is only the beginning. ❤️🐴

The National Symphony Orchestra is practicing inside a building that Trump and his allies say could fall on their heads.

Happy Birthday, Margaret! And may you get lots of donations today for October's hay fund and October's feed fund too!!!!
Today is my birthday…
Typically it’s an unremarkable day and I’m just happy when people remember and wish me well for another successful trip around the sun.
I spent the morning with my favorite souls down in the barn and we watched the sunrise together before I cleaned up after them (birthday or not, I am still the chef and the maid) and now I’m hanging out with the house critters.
Today is just another reminder that I am a pretty lucky girl, I have all that I need in the world.
It would be really nice, however, if I could reach goal for hay for this month to feed everyone. Begging is my least favorite thing, but I reconcile it in my head with the idea that after what they gave to the industry they deserve someone to beg for their well-being.
And as much as I loathe it I will do it for as long as I have to.
So we received $310 since yesterday toward our October hay fund goal (thank you Carol, Cynthia and Olga), leaving us at $4,038 raised with $2,252 left to go!
And as always, thank you for your continued kindness and support every day, not just on my birthday…

UPDATE: New Hampshire asked the First Circuit to pause a ruling allowing election officials to consider student IDs as evidence of identity when registering and voting in state elections.
Voting advocates argue the ban burdens students, especially those who are low-income or lack transportation.
