Thanks as ever to the @ConversationEDU for hosting my short piece on peptide clinics in Australia, following the Four Corners investigation into products purporting to be anti-ageing.
Wellness clinics are supplying peptides and anti-ageing injections that aren't approved, meaning they haven't been checked for safety or effectiveness. @chrisrudge @Sydney_Uni theconversation.com/how-well…

Ink has barely dried on one of the world’s biggest government settlements for abysmal misuse of automated decision-making and the auditor’s primed to weigh the matter soberly.

Important reporting from Emily Baker on how EMDR therapy is compromising access to justice for abuse survivors. The tension between prosecution policy and evidence law needs reconciling, especially given the NHMRC endorses EMDR for PTSD. abc.net.au/news/2026-07-01/c…
I'm running Sydney Marathon 2026 for the Tenants' Union of NSW, which has for 50 years stood up for renters. Training's hard; but home disputes harder.

P.S. The graphic says I ran 831 days straight in one year; true, but three years. 😅

An injectable gene therapy that promises to extend lifespan is said to be launching later this year — no rigorous trials, no FDA approval, offered only via partner clinics, apparently in Honduras, Panama and the Bahamas. I spoke to @newscientist about it. newscientist.com/article/253…
Beach J has approved the $548.5m Robodebt settlement. $475m compensates 433k+ group members, on top of the $112m from 2021. The misfeasance claim won't now be tried — but his Honour found Commonwealth liability would not have been difficult to prove ('smooth sailing'). ...
Regrettably, the fight over two days was about the funder's commission. Omni Bridgeway sought 15% (~$71m). The Court allowed $35m, finding the funder's risk fell away once the matter settled at mediation.
Today is day one of two in the final settlement hearing in the Robodebt class action. The FCA (Beach J) will decide whether to approve the $548.5m settlement for 433k+ group members. Settlement ends any hope of a trial but will pay out money.

Hee is my discussion of the issues last year: theconversation.com/robodebt… Since then, the NACC has found two mid-level public servants corrupt for their roles in Robodebt.
Chaplin v Secretary, DSS [2026] HCA 22: appeal dismissed unanimously. “Earned, derived or received” now turns on what a decision-maker can be satisfied of, not when income was truly earned or entitlement truly arises. austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewd…
