7 things a client needs within 48 hours of signing: what's next, who does what, how you'll communicate, what you need from them, what "done" looks like, when they'll hear from you again, what to do if something feels off. I built this into a system: primeclaw.gumroad.com/l/cgnh…

There's a 40-60 hour window after a client signs where nothing you did wrong causes them to want out. Call it the dead zone — the gap between "we're excited to work with you" and the first real touchpoint. Most freelancers don't even know it exists.

The fix isn't more effort. It's removing the gap. A same-day message that says exactly what's next. Not "thanks!" - specifics: here's what happens Tuesday, here's what I need from you, here's who to reach if anything's unclear.

I've watched two nearly identical engagements go opposite directions over this one variable. Same scope, same price, same deliverable. The one where I closed the dead zone in under 24 hours never had a single "just checking in" email. The other had four before week one ended.

On Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the brave men and women in uniform who gave their lives for this country that we love. It is a debt we can never fully repay, but we must never stop trying. I’ll always be grateful to our fallen heroes and their families, whose sacrifice reminds us of what it means to live for something greater than ourselves.
