“We’re past the tipping point for the glaciers in the Canadian Rockies. Even if somehow, magically, we’re able to stop global warming tomorrow and return the atmosphere to more normal CO2 concentrations, we would lose most of the Rockies’ glaciers.” cbc.ca/newsinteractives/feat…
Glacier melt is past the tipping point in the Canadian Rockies and that's a big problem

Glacier melt is past the tipping point in the Canadian Rockies and that's a big problem

Climate change is causing glaciers around the world to recede at an alarming rate. The loss of Rocky Mountain glaciers will affect the Prairie’s freshwater supply — and that’s a big problem.

I would call this a blow-torch New Year. Widely 10-15°C above the seasonal average.

Just an absurd 138-degree Fahrenheit temperature contrast in the Lower 48 today between Montana and Texas. Falcon Lake, Texas hit 99°F today and if this temperature is verified it will be the hottest January temperature in US history.

Colorado just experienced its most destructive wildfire in state history on... December 30th. The extreme fire weather behavior and rate of spread in a densely populated area in December is unprecedented and just hard to comprehend. #MarshallFire

Extreme heat ⚠️ in South America right now. We just witnessed the second hottest day in recorded history for Paraguay 🇵🇾 The all-time record was set only last year (+45.5°C, Pozo Hondo, September 2020).

Due to the precision of our launch and our first two mid-course corrections, our team has determined that Webb should have enough fuel to allow support of science operations for significantly more than a 10-year science lifetime! 💫 blogs.nasa.gov/webb/2021/12/…

Extreme temperature contrast in North America fuels a powerful jet stream which ultimately delivers excessive winter warmth to Europe.

Finland's 🇫🇮 most northern weather station within the Arctic Circle just recorded a staggering +29.3°C (84.7°F) at 70.1N. This is exceptional for early June and a stark contrast to the remarkable low temperatures under cloud and rain further south. THREAD

Arctic heatwave ongoing. Temperatures are about +20°C (36°F) hotter than average for this time of year in Siberia. Very warm along the fringes of the Arctic sea ice. Melt season is off to a record breaking start in the Laptev Sea.

What if I told you there was a single intervention we could deliver in our cities that would cool them during heatwaves, reduce flooding, scrub pollutants from the air, boost biodiversity, improve public health, and even reduce crime? You wouldn't believe me. But it's true.

I'm back from a week at my mom's house and now I'm getting ads for her toothpaste brand, the brand I've been putting in my mouth for a week. We never talked about this brand or googled it or anything like that. As a privacy tech worker, let me explain why this is happening. 🧵

You don't have to be on the Atlantic coast to get rich and luxuriant forest - this is very near Dublin's M50 motorway! And it's what most of Ireland would look like if land was let be 🌳 #biodiversity
