Isotope Days 2026 Webinar Series | Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Thursday, November 12 10:00 AM ET NMR spectroscopy is one of the most powerful tools for studying biomolecules, but low sensitivity, resolution, and molecular size can be limiting factors. In our third Isotope Days webinar, three leading researchers will show how strategic isotope labeling is pushing those boundaries. Silvia Cavagnero, PhD | Professor and Associate Director, University of Wisconsin–Madison LC-Photo-CIDNP and Isotopologs as Powerful Tools to Increase the Sensitivity of Biomolecular NMR Spectroscopy Learn how low-concentration photo-CIDNP enables ultra-rapid NMR data collection at low-micromolar to nanomolar concentrations, and how amino acid isotopologs and quasi-isolated spin pairs (QISP) dramatically boost hyperpolarization in proteins. Tuo Wang, PhD | Carl Brubaker Professor, Michigan State University How Isotope-Labeling Strategies Can Help Us Better Visualize Cellular Samples by Solid-State NMR and DNP Discover how diverse labeling schemes allow solid-state NMR and DNP to distinguish newly synthesized macromolecules from existing ones, track components built from different precursors, and sharpen 1H-detected spectra, with implications for bioenergy and antifungal resistance. Joshua Ziarek, PhD | Associate Professor of Pharmacology, Northwestern University Designing Better Cysteine-Reactive 19F Probes to Reveal Protein Conformation and Dynamics See how engineering aromatic probes and placing a bonded 19F-13C spin pair unlocks the TROSY effect, producing sharp linewidths and multiplexed monitoring of protein dynamics at high molecular weights, without uniform protein enrichment. What happens when your requirement increases from 500 g to 500 kg? This is one of the most important questions in deuterated drug development. A synthetic route may perform exceptionally well at laboratory scale. But commercialization introduces an entirely new set of considerations: • Availability of critical deuterated starting materials • Manufacturing capacity and scalability • Supplier qualification and quality requirements • Supply chain resilience • Long-term supply and business continuity • Successful deuterated medicines require more than innovative chemistry. They require a reliable supply infrastructure capable of supporting the transition from development through commercial manufacturing. For pharmaceutical companies and CDMOs, these supply questions are best addressed before a program reaches commercial scale. Early engagement creates more time to evaluate capacity, qualify supply, align quality requirements and plan for long-term demand. 📍 Will you be at CPHI Milan? Let's discuss how your deuterated material supply strategy can scale with your program. Meet CIL at Booth 3F34. Two reagents. One objective: enabling efficient deuterated synthesis. The development of deuterated pharmaceuticals often depends on access to a broad toolbox of specialized reagents and starting materials. Methyl Iodide-d₃ (CD₃I) is a widely used methylating agent for introducing deuterated methyl groups into pharmaceutical intermediates and APIs. Methylene Chloride-d₂ (CD₂Cl₂) further illustrates the breadth of highly enriched deuterated materials available to synthetic and process chemists developing deuterated molecules. Together, these materials highlight the range of tools available to development teams working on next-generation deuterated therapeutics. But successful chemistry is only part of the challenge. As programs progress from development toward clinical and commercial manufacturing, access to critical deuterated materials must be matched by scalability, consistent quality and long-term supply security. At CIL, ISOAPI-D™ provides pharmaceutical innovators with access to high-quality deuterated reagents and intermediates, backed by CIL's manufacturing expertise and a robust global supply chain. CIL publicly positions ISOAPI-D around bulk manufacture, traceability and a robust, diversified supply chain. 📅 Visiting CPHI Milan? If your team is evaluating deuterated intermediates, commercial-scale reagents or future manufacturing requirements, let's discuss how your supply strategy can scale with your program. When your deuterated API reaches clinical success, will your deuterated reducing agent supply strategy be ready to scale with it? For many deuterated API programs, selective reduction is one of the most effective and versatile approaches for incorporating deuterium into pharmaceutical intermediates. Two of the most widely used tools for this purpose are Lithium Aluminum Deuteride (LiAlD4) and Sodium Borodeuteride-d4 (NaBD4). LiAlD4 and NaBD4 offer complementary reactivity profiles, enabling deuterium incorporation across a wide range of pharmaceutical intermediates, from selective carbonyl reductions to more demanding transformations. These powerful reducing agents enable the synthesis of a broad range of deuterated building blocks, intermediates, and active pharmaceutical ingredients, helping process chemists achieve targeted deuterium incorporation and high levels of isotopic enrichment. LiAlD4 and NaBD4 are proven tools for deuterium incorporation. Commercial success requires ensuring those tools remain available when your program scales. As development programs progress from discovery to clinical and commercial stages, the conversation naturally expands beyond reaction performance. • Can critical deuterated synthesis reagents be supplied at the scale your program may ultimately require? • Is sufficient manufacturing capacity available to support future demand? • Can long-term supply security be maintained throughout the product lifecycle? For pharmaceutical innovators and CDMOs developing the next generation of deuterated APIs, these questions can become just as important as the chemistry itself. At CIL, the ISOAPI-D™ portfolio was created to support both successful synthesis and successful commercialization, providing access to critical deuterated reagents backed by decades of isotope manufacturing expertise and a secure global supply chain. 📍 Visit us at #CPHIMilan, Booth 3F34, to discuss how LiAlD4, NaBD4, and the broader ISOAPI-D™ portfolio can support your deuterated API development and manufacturing strategy.
