Today, in Malindi, Kilifi County, I officially opened the 5th East Africa Public Relations Week and the 21st PRSK Annual Summit, bringing together communication professionals and leaders from across the region. In an era of artificial intelligence, misinformation and rapidly evolving digital technologies, credible, timely and responsible communication remains essential to building public trust and strengthening our institutions. I reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to professionalising the communication sector through the Public Relations and Communication Management Bill, 2024, the National Communication Policy and the Government Communication Strategy 2025–2028. We are also advancing plans to establish the Kenya School of Communication as a centre of excellence for training and research, while strengthening regional cooperation and professional standards. As we expand digital connectivity and transform public service delivery, effective communication must remain at the heart of our development agenda, ensuring every Kenyan is informed, engaged and empowered. I commend the Public Relations Society of Kenya and our regional partners for championing professionalism, integrity and accountability. A well-informed citizenry is the foundation of a strong, inclusive and progressive nation.

A very proud moment for Kenya! I warmly congratulate Prof. Phoebe Okowa on her election to a full nine-year term as a Judge of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), serving from 2027 to 2036. Her appointment is a significant recognition of Kenya’s contribution to international jurisprudence and the depth of African legal scholarship. It is also an important moment for women’s representation in global governance. I wish you every success @Phoebe_Okowa

I joined Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, Hon. William Kabogo, in flagging off the Post4Health fleet, a major milestone in strengthening Posta Kenya’s logistics capacity and expanding our role in specialised supply chain solutions. The initiative is supported by a strategic funding partnership comprising KSh 42 million from the @CA_Kenya through the Universal Service Fund (USF), KSh 23.5 million from the Government of Japan through the Universal Postal Union (UPU), and KSh 31.3 million from the UPU Quality of Service Fund, bringing the total investment to **KSh 96.8 million**. Beyond healthcare, the refrigerated fleet will support the transportation of temperature-sensitive goods across agriculture, fisheries, food distribution and other specialised supply chains. By leveraging Posta Kenya’s extensive nationwide network, we aim to strengthen last-mile delivery, improve access to essential markets and extend reliable logistics services to underserved communities. I appreciate the Government of Kenya, the Communications Authority, the Government of Japan and the UPU for this investment and partnership. This milestone reinforces our commitment to transforming Posta Kenya into a modern, diversified logistics partner that supports national development and delivers practical solutions across multiple sectors of the economy. #PostaKenya

You log into your bank. the SMS code arrives. you copy it. you switch to the banking app. you paste it. done. in the time between you copying that code and pasting it, every app that comes to the foreground can read your clipboard. not apps running in the background. apps that become active including ones you swipe past, or that pop up a notification you tap. That's how clipboards work. they're a shared resource across every app on the device. One-time codes are the obvious ones at risk, you copy an OTP, switch apps once, the code is gone from your mind but still sitting in the clipboard. any app that opens in that window reads it. Not just OTPs. addresses, card numbers, recovery codes, passwords you copied from a password manager before pasting all of it lives in the clipboard until you copy something else or clear it. For iPhone recent iOS versions show a banner notification when an app reads your clipboard without you tapping paste. If TikTok, a game, or a shopping app triggers that banner after you copied something sensitive that app just read whatever was there. Apple added this specifically because apps were doing it silently at scale. Android is more fragmented and exposed. There are two specific permissions worth auditing: Notification access, apps with this permission can read the full text of your notifications, including OTP codes that arrive as SMS or push notifications. Go to settings → apps → special app access → notification access. Anything in there that shouldn't be reading your messages is a problem. "draw over other apps" (display over other apps): this permission lets an app place a visible layer on top of whatever you're doing. it's used legitimately by things like screen recorders and assistant apps. it's also a known path for overlay attacks: a fake UI drawn over your real banking app, capturing your password and taps before they reach the real screen.
Some apps read your clipboard when they come to the foreground — not only when you tap Paste. That can include one-time codes, addresses, or a password you just copied. On iPhone, recent iOS versions show a banner when an app reads the clipboard; treat that as a signal, not noise. Prefer Share sheets over copy-paste for sensitive text, and clear the clipboard after OTPs. On Android, check which apps have notification access and “draw over other apps” — listeners can read OTPs that appear in notifications, and overlays are a known path for stealing passwords and taps. At Prynoid we test claims against behaviour, including what an app touches when you are not looking. prynoid.com/services/ Source: mysk.blog/2020/03/10/popular… #privacy #clipboard #mobile

The Central Bank of Kenya's Head of Research explaining how the regulator is thinking about use of AI: · The regulator is looking at ~ 300 use cases · The Research Department is looking at AI in macro forecasting especially in a volatile environment with the goal of minimising errors · The Research Department is looking at AI in 'nowcasting' to help bridge lags in receipt of data & help in guiding the monetary policy committee on the near real time state of the economy. He cites the case of the lag in release of GDP data by the Bureau of Statistics · Large data volumes analysis & evaluation of correlation/causation around various variables. He cites analysis of mobile payments data in the economy · As expected, use of agentic AI in payments is also being cited here

Today, I attended the Second ICT Sector Intergovernmental Consultative Forum, bringing together the National Government and County Governments to discuss the direction of Kenya’s ICT sector and how we can work together to address issues affecting the sector. The forum provided an opportunity for us to review progress on resolutions from our previous meeting, agree on areas that require action and strengthen coordination between the two levels of government. Our discussions focused on the cost of installing fibre infrastructure, harmonisation of wayleave fees across counties, alignment of ICT infrastructure with county development plans, and the need to recognise communication towers as critical infrastructure. We also discussed cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, the implementation of the Kenya National Digital Master Plan 2022–2032 and the coordination of digital hubs across the country. These conversations matter because the decisions we make at this table have a direct impact on how citizens access services and how we expand digital connectivity. We also reviewed the rollout of the Digital Maturity Index (DMI), a tool developed by the Council of Governors and partners to help counties assess their level of digital transformation, identify gaps and plan their investments. Assessments in Kisumu and Turkana counties have been completed, with Kitui underway and Murang’a scheduled for November. Our goal is to extend the assessment to all 47 counties and use the findings to guide digital transformation at the county level. I was joined by the Co-Chair and ICT Committee Chair of the Council of Governors, Hon. Wesley Rotich; Principal Secretary, State Department for ICT & Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui; Principal Secretary, State Department for Broadcasting & Telecommunications, Mr. Stephen Isaboke, Principal Secretary State Department for Devolution, Mr. Michael Lenasalon and other stakeholders and senior government officials. As we conclude this forum, our focus must shift to implementing the resolutions we have agreed upon. I believe that when the National Government and County Governments work together, we can address the challenges facing the sector and ensure that digital transformation reaches every county and serves the needs of our people
