#Krakatau: il video di un peschereccio a due passi dal vulcano alle prese con una fitta ricaduta di cenere e lapilli. Negli ultimi 10 secondi si intravede anche la colonna eruttiva prodotta dall'attività esplosiva.
The most explosive volcanic eruptions can put sufficient sulphur dioxide into the lower stratosphere that shades the surface and has a cooling effect on climate
Warmer climate, more surface evaporation on top of average increasing precipitation, surface and forest drying, more convective clouds, more lightning ⚡️ ignition of fires 🔥, a real physics connection of warming with fire doi.org/10.1038/nclimate3329
at this late-ish stage in the 2026 melt season, @PromiceGL measurements indicate the Greenland ice sheet has had a slightly less lossy year than average, and still losing 100 Gigatones of ice, more than all the ice in the European Alps

🚨 For only the second time in history, summer skiing has come to an end on Plateau Rosa
The extraordinary glacier and ski area, accessible from Cervinia in Italy 🇮🇹 and Zermatt in Switzerland 🇨🇭, has been devastated by extreme heat
An infinite sadness
gladly for a global rising sea level, summer snowfall to Greenland has subdued Greenland ice sheet mass loss this season.

To say ‘But there were ice ages and climate cycles’ does not contradict that humans have become drivers of global climate perturbation
Heatwave Hot take… planetarysunshade.org/ I’m not saying it will be easy nor cheap. I’m saying that as long as humanity does not self destruct in the next decades, I say humans will go for this option. And, they’ll do SAI in transition. 🤷
I’m pro AC! Abundant energy is key for human development. The question is how marginalised will ecosystems become as humans inevitably climb the energy scale?
Climate heating from excess infrared trapping gas reduces reflectivity across the arctic leading to more solar surface heating. The arctic warming faster than the mid latitudes reduces the speed of the polar vortex, allowing it to meander more. Thus, highly amplified waves can be caused by excessive co2.

It is a fact:
HIGHEST TEMPERATURE EVER MEASURED IN DENMARK:
36.6 C in Beldringe is the highest temperature ever measured in Denmark, breaking the old record of 36.4 C from August 10th 1975
Persistent anomalies in the Jet Stream are the hallmark of climate events...Greenland ice sheet mass balance recently had a melt pause coinciding with hot and sunny Europe. It's typical for Greenland and Europe to have ~opposite heat anomalies because the two regions lie along differing positions of the Jet Stream.
data: @PromiceGL dataverse.geus.dk/dataset.xh…
powerful melt onset in recent days across west Greenland indicated by snow darkening and bare ice exposure (colored red) around some low-lying marginal areas
