Kinda feels like the Colts coulda waited a beat longer to trade Nelson/Buckner tbh. I don't know that their markets look any different in 1-2 weeks, but injury risk allowed, I'd at least think you ask the question.
After talking to several NFL teams and GMs over the last hour, my expectation is the trade deadline will be even crazier than anticipated. Chicago’s all-in move will cause other teams to react and try to be bold as well. In the words of one source: “All hell is going to break loose over the next week and a half. Get your popcorn ready.” 🍿🍿🍿

Jeff Simmons is awesome but...what?

Obligatory but important PSA: please be sure to get out and vote in your local elections. This is where the work starts.

The name I haven't heard anyone mention as a Colts firesale offer, but makes a ton of sense to me: Cam Bynum.

I won't fault anyone for Colts optimism; Lord knows we've had enough mediocrity-to-misery in recent years. But they need to stack more Day 2 capital before I'm buying much of anything, personally.

Indy TV sportscasters always have the absolute worst takes. Same crowd that was #ChuckStay years ago lol
10 games to go - YOU play in the AFC South??? What type of message is this sending to the team and your fanbase for the next 10 weeks? 🤯 @WISHNews8 I @wrtv I #firesale

A lot of deserved Chris Ballard ire as Colts fans reconcile losing favorite players for pennies. Understood! History should assign plenty of that blame to Jim Irsay though. Complicated legacy to reconcile but his ownership without Polian around was rough.

No reason to believe Ballard's staff (which a new GM will undoubtedly inherit for their first draft) will do anything with these picks. But at least good to know Irsay-Gordon didn't hesitate to declare she had seen enough. No sense in evaluating 26-27 prospects any further.

I guess I view it like this: IF you invested a top-10 pick in iOL and that player is actually good (or great), why would you not see out that career? Especially when you have mountains of cap space. We can debate drafting G at 6 (you shouldn't), but once he's there, keep him.

Gut reaction is: I hate that Quenton Nelson trade. You're going to need OL in your rebuild. Hell, you need OL now. Nelson is a scheme fit regardless of the scheme. Money isn't an issue. I don't get setting yourself up just to chase that position again.

If he made clear he was never going to re-sign in Indy (very possible), I get that Colts lacked leverage. But if he was open to it...once you made that premium draft pick at the position, it seems silly not to see it out until the returns are no longer there?

None of this really matters, but my interpretation of the coachspeak: Jones can run Steichen's system, AR/Leonard cannot. But Jones isn't able to functionally run that system this season either due to 4 or 5 things making his play barely operational. It's a mess.
Colts coach Shane Steichen today on QB Daniel Jones: "He's proven that he can do it. So that's where the confidence comes from. And we need to get him back playing to that level that he was last year. It's taking a little bit longer."

That's a ridiculous flag on the Packers! St Brown didn't think he was down. Packers tackled accordingly. You gotta use some common sense...

It doesn't really matter what Steichen says. The ship has already sank; he's auditioning loyalty for his next QB. (Also in all likelihood: he HATES AR...) But the correct answer in coachspeak is: "The offense wasn't good enough; we'll review the tape and assess everything."
#Colts HC Shane Steichen says he has NOT considered a QB change because he has “a lot of faith” in Daniel Jones.

I mean, yeah, you cannot keep doing this. Vikings are incredible and forced the issue, but Jones is non-operational from the jump.
Daniel Jones with just 2.6 yards per dropback today. That ranks 206th among 207 qualified games this season.

If Colts do turn to Anthony Richardson (doubtful), it will just be a different flavor of bad. But you can't keep going to this same well with Daniel Jones. The cavalry ain't coming at WR and this script has become non-operational.

Why does it feel like UDFA injury replacement DBs are always making more plays on the ball than Mooney Ward, Cam Bynum and Sauce Gardner?

If Colts hold on to win this, I'm confident the takeaway is *not* "no wait we should keep this roster intact because it has the foundation of a true contender."

Was Jonathan Taylor this lousy at pass-blocking earlier in his career? I know he's been rough for a few seasons now but I don't remember him being that much of a liability his first few years.
