What does a strong team culture look like? 1. We > Me 2. Process > Prize 3. Serving > Self-Serving 4. Learning > Knowing 5. Positivity > Negativity 6. Encouraging > Ignoring Choose to lead. Be a gatekeeper of your culture.

Players: Unless you are pitching or catching there should be no one sitting down in the dugout. Everyone up, cheering the boys on, exuding positive energy! The best teams I've ever coached or played on had the best dugout energy. They were always chirping, moving, picking each other up. The coach should never have to tell you to get up or say, "Let me hear ya." If you're not playing stop sulking and be a good teammate. Trust me, your coach sees you feeling bad for yourself and being selfish. All you're doing is getting further away from the lineup. If you want to get in be engaged, help the squad, warm someone up. It will get noticed! You're playing baseball! Have fun! Be loud! Bring energy!

The majority of high school baseball coaches aren’t in it for the paycheck. The hours don’t match. The stress doesn’t match. The pay doesn’t match. They do it for the love of the game, most people don’t realize that.

Went to a HS game yesterday. Had a D1 coach come meet me there to watch a kid. During the game, the team’s catcher would sprint to his position every inning. He’s an underclassman, the D1 coach wasn’t there for him, he is now on that coaches radar. Some things preached at every level - ▪️sprint to your spot between innings ▪️show off your arm in between innings ▪️serious throws in the INF/OF and as a catcher You can be 0-3 and still make an impression

Some heroes don’t wear capes—they show up with courage. Meeting Lewis was special. His strength and faith are real. It’s not about what you’ve lost—it’s what God is doing through you. Happy National Superhero Day. 🦸‍♂️

A leadership secret many coaches miss: Players talk more to teammates than coaches. If your leaders are strong… Your culture grows. If they aren’t… Your message dies in the locker room.

20 years as a varsity coach taught me 10 things about building winners. #7 is the hardest one for coaches👇 1. Culture is built in the moments you think don’t matter. 2. Your best player sets the standard, or destroys it. 3. Discipline is a form of love. 4. The locker room tells you everything about your real culture. 5. The coach-player relationship is the foundation of everything. Build it first. 6. Players don’t remember plays. They remember how you made them feel. 7. The hardest thing to coach: getting players to want what the team needs more than what they want. 8. It’s not just what you say. It’s how you say it, who you say it to, and when. 9. Getting players to own their role, not just accept it, is rare. 10. The coach who wins long-term builds people, not just players. 20 years. 500+ games. This is what actually matters. 🏆

HS Baseball Players ⚾️ The game ends for ALL of us. Some after the MLB. Most after high school. Here’s the truth… 👇 Your stats will fade. Your impact won’t. Legacy isn’t what you did. It’s who you impacted 💯

8 Realities of a High School Coach 1. It will consume you 2. There will be critics 3. You are not in it for the $ 4. There is no overnight success 5. You need a supportive spouse 6. You will not make everyone happy 7. You can’t want it more than the kids 8. It is still worth it!

A great assistant coach is worth more than any play you drew up this week. They catch what you miss. They reach who you can’t. They reinforce what you expect. Great teams aren’t led by one voice. They’re built by a connected staff.

Being a high school multi-sport athlete should be encouraged, not discouraged. As a varsity coach, I support players competing in other sports. The problem isn’t multi-sport participation—it’s coaches expecting year-round priority. That’s control, not development.
