Hayao Miyazaki on modern anime, via Roland Kelts the author of 'Japanamerica'
"Hayao Miyazaki said to me at one point: 'The problem with young anime artists today is that the only thing they study is anime. When we were young, we studied French literature, we studied impressionism, we read Dostoevsky. We swallowed everything. And then we went and created original anime. But if you grow up and all you watch is anime, you're just regurgitating spinning wheels.'"
He also spoke about his work on the upcoming documentary 'Tezuka! God of Manga'
Someone asked and it's got me thinking, and I am hesitant because I still have a lot of feelings about the fandom, but does anyone want me to post the Hualian bathtub sex threadfic, along with the reunion fic, I wrote in 2022 somewhere for you to read while AO3 is down?

Smth I find funny about the whole "writers are demanding 500 kudos to update" (which isnt a thing) is that there's a pretty popular art trend/meme where the artist will require x number of ❣s and RTs to progressively undress a character and no one bats an eye at it. so lol
Watched La Bola Negra again, but in 35mm. Amongst the packed theatre, barely stifled sobs could be quietly heard. Somewhere amongst the snow-capped mountains, where a boy thought he had more time, an audience found its greatest fear reflected back at them.

I have seen AO3 fanart in that 'dead wife flashback' style. The people are not alright, someone bring her back from the war.

asked my mom to get my godparents in madrid to get me the la bola negra artbook, and then when I told her it's about lorca's works, she said he wrote a poem about her land, santiago, and sure enough he did
what I always find interesting about our optimism is also that millennial friends are some of the most cynical people I know, and after going "hehe might kms if it gets worse" we just dust ourselves off and go "fuck tomorrow better not suck too, or else" and or else never comes.
