Some “app growth hacks” I’ve seen on Twitter over the last few weeks, + the potential consequences for employing those hacks:
📈 Ask for someone’s age during onboarding, or use signals like their preferred text size to guess, then charge users you think are older more
⚠️ Age discrimination in pricing is illegal in plenty of places. Tinder charged older users more for the same subscription and recently agreed to a $60.5 million settlement in California
Guessing someone’s age from an accessibility setting instead of asking them doesn’t make it better
📈 Ask for someone’s phone number during onboarding, then use an iMessage payment plugin to send them an offer that bypasses the store fee
⚠️ Sending automated marketing messages without explicit consent can expose you to TCPA damages of $500 per message, or $1,500 for knowing/willful violations
That’s per message. Per recipient.
📈 Hide your real payment flow from App Review, then remotely enable it once the app is approved
⚠️ Your app gets removed and your entire developer account gets terminated
📈 Pop up a fake discount spinner after someone rejects your first paywall, programmed to always land on the highest discount
⚠️ You’ve built a deceptive chance mechanic to manipulate someone into buying. That can lead to consumer protection enforcement, fines, refunds and App Store action.
I don’t want to be the “app police”. You do you.
But we (@RevenueCat) only make money when you make more money
If your app gets pulled from the App Store, or you’re bankrupted by a fine or lawsuit, you’re not making any money and we’re not making any money
So please take app growth advice from Twitter influencers with a grain of salt
“Other apps are doing it” is not legal advice

This is my best friend, @Courtney8easley. As the crew’s PAO, she’s the reason you’ve seen them in the world. And I am so proud of her ❤️

Tried to buy MLBTV for my parents and it took me 30 mins to figure it out. Accidentally bought something called MLB+ in the process which is just radio and MLB Network??!?!
Maybe I’m an idiot but it’s incredible how difficult they’ve made this to do through the app.

If you watched any of my R2 videos, if you read any of my R2 articles, if you shared any of my R2 content this past week (and in the coming weeks), I want to THANK YOU!
You made it one of the highest traffic weeks ever on RivianTrackr.com and some of the most views on my YouTube channel ever.
I truly got emotional when I saw all the interaction because this all started as a little pet project and it has grown so much over the last few years. We're just getting started!

Today’s performance by @AGPamBondi was not only unacceptable, it was clearly a smoke screen for a coverup, and her anger is at herself because her shattered moral compass still has a pulse.

I am not random 😀
I have been using your app for years and have a subscription (DFTS Pro).
I wish I had known about it when I still commanded the 43rd Airborne Battalion - it would have been an excellent teaching tool for junior officers.
Keep up the good work. Semper Fi!

If the Capitol Police had abided by the standards of MAGA commentators on the Minneapolis ICE shooting, half the January 6 protesters would have been shot to death.

We launched RevenueCat one year ago from a co-working space in San Francisco.
In the last 12 months:
- Multiple RevenueCat-built apps reached $10k-$100k MRR
- Our community of developers grew to 100k
- We've crossed $40M ARR
- Enterprises started doing subscriptions with RC: OpenAI, Ladder, Runna, and more.
I'm deeply grateful to every person using RevenueCat and the RevenueCat team for making this possible.

Major cracks are beginning to appear in military leadership under Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, with current senior military officers and current and former officials with the Defense Department telling The Washington Time that Hegseth has lost the trust and respect of some top military commanders, as a result of his public “grandstanding” widely seen as unprofessional and the personnel moves made by the former cable television host, leading to an unprecedented and dangerous exodus of talent from the Pentagon.
Numerous high-ranking officers painted Hegseth’s speech on September 30 to hundreds of generals and admirals gathered at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia as a turning point in how his leadership style, attitude and overall competency are viewed in the upper echelons of the U.S. Armed Forces, with senior officials calling the speech “embarrassing” and theatrical to a degree that “is below our institution.” “It was a massive waste of time — If he ever had us, he lost us,” one current general with the U.S. Army told The Washington Times.
Wow, lots of American flags and peace . Sure doesn’t seem like people who hate America you absolute embarrassment @SpeakerJohnson

It's 2025 and sharing files wirelessly between my macbook and my Android phone is still annoying like there is no tomorrow.
This morning I gave LocalSend a try, and I've to say I'm impressed:

it's os, free, no ads, and worked like a charm 🔥🔥🔥
