Gee whiz, even the Black Widow promises her victim a good time before she kills him. Here it's just, "Come on over and let us bleed you dry. While forbidding you to cry about it."

>If compute prices fall. This is obviously VERY BEARISH
>If XYZ doesn’t raise new capital, they need more capital. This is BEARISH.
>If they do raise new capital, this is a sign they needed it + supply. BEARISH.

>Lab ARR growth decelerates. Less AI monetisation. BEARISH.
>Lab ARR re-accelerates. Opensource more compute intensive so also BEARISH.

On the Matter of “Our Own Nuclear Weapons” That Ukraine Was Forced to Surrender
One cannot simply hand over nuclear weapons that are truly one’s own. If the arsenal is genuinely yours, you can always make more of it. You can enrich fresh uranium in centrifuges. You can put the same plants that once assembled the warheads back to work producing new ones. You can call upon the scientists who designed them to reconstruct the old drawings. You can modernise the command systems and delivery platforms that already exist. If you possess none of these things—centrifuges, factories, scientists, design bureaus, command structures—then you never possessed nuclear weapons in the first place.
What is far more striking about the nuclear question is the sheer scale of Ukraine’s economic and scientific collapse, which left it unable to produce such weapons at all.
Under the Soviet Union and within Russia these lands ranked among the richest and most advanced.
The entire political, scientific, technical and literary elite naturally spoke Russian; nothing prevented that state of affairs from continuing.
Yet once the ruling class and the activists, eager for the approval of Western NGOs, launched their own Cultural Revolution and set about turning the country into a Greater Galicia “from the river to the sea,” the technical and scientific elite simply departed. Among those who left were precisely the people capable of building a nuclear bomb.
When the West presented Ukraine with its price—“transform yourselves into anti-Russia and we shall admit you into the Western world”—no one grasped that such a price is demanded only by those who intend to renege on the bargain in any case.
However far Russia itself may have declined after the Soviet collapse, it has still preserved, as we can see, an order of magnitude more of its industrial and scientific capacity than the Ukraine that was trampled underfoot by activists and by its own version of BLM.
Such is the price of the triumph of “pro-Western activists” and NGOs.

Pat Buchanan, 1999:
“By moving NATO onto Russia’s front porch, we have scheduled a twenty-first century confrontation. … America will face a hellish dilemma: risk confrontation with a nuclear-armed Russia determined to recreate its old sphere of influence, or renege on solemn commitments and see NATO collapse.”
Therefore, he said, “Offering NATO memberships to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and, as some urge, Ukraine is rashness bordering on madness.” Referring to maps the Clinton team must have ignored, Buchanan warned, “This would put the Russian base at Kaliningrad behind NATO lines and bring into a U.S.-led alliance three nations with huge Russian minorities.” Foreseeing future conflict, he observed that “Latvia is almost half Russian; eastern Ukraine, almost entirely Russian. America could neither defend nor liberate these nations without the risk of nuclear war.”

It's funny that Eastern European standpoint epistemologists explain to us that we must listen to them, on the ground that unlike naive Western Europeans they understand the Russian soul, but then proceed to peddle this kind of delusional garbage.

I used to supervise Euroclear and Clearstream so this @FT story caught my attention. @MESandbu suggests Euroclear is too big to destabilise and Belgium is to small to bear the risks of $360 billion restoration costs if ever the Central Bank of the Russian Federation succeeds in regaining rights to frozen or expropriated assets - which it will regain in any settlement of the Ukraine war.
What he fails to address entirely is Rule of Law and Private Property Rights. Sure these are inconvenient to thieves, but they are essential to global securities markets. Securities are called securities because they convey secure property interests and claims to their owners at law.
What will destabilise Euroclear is global perception that $44 TRILLION in securities assets under custody are now UNSAFE because the EU can decide to steal them.
Also, it’s irritating to see him suggest ECB can force Euroclear ‘to split off the risky part of its balance sheet into a separate entity’. That is just another form of theft.
Euroclear is licensed as a bank, but its core business in its charter and under specific Belgian legislation is as a fiduciary or trustee of OTHER PEOPLES’ ASSETS. Because it is so central to European and global markets, it is forbidden to take normal commercial risks. Fiduciary, custodian, and trust assets under Euroclear custody are NOT on Euroclear’s balance sheet because 100% ownership remains with the depositors. Even if Euroclear goes bust, customer assets will NOT form any part of the insolvency estate and can be reclaimed by depositors.
I designed and modernised the laws protecting Euroclear and Clearstream depositors. I pray they withstand these lawless attacks by would-be thieves.
Break Rule of Law and Property Rights and you break global securities markets.

My husband is so generous. He takes the time to research all the candidates in our local elections and fills out my ballot, choosing whoever aligns with my explicit best financial interests. They just don't make 'em like this anymore. Luckiest girl in the world!
