The most important thing we found building AI recipes for Easy Digital Downloads was a switch that ships in the off position.
EDD 3.7.1 now tells AI assistants what it can do. 25 operations across orders, customers, products, discounts, reports, logs and settings.
Connect Claude or ChatGPT to your WordPress store and it can read all of it on day one. It can't change a thing.
Our first attempt to create a product was refused, and it took us a minute to work out why. There's a toggle under Downloads > Tools > AI, "Allow AI to change store data," and it stays off until the store owner turns it on.
I think that's the right default. Reading is where you should start anyway. A sales report or a pre-launch audit changes nothing, so there's nothing to undo. When you want the AI building discount codes or resending receipts, you flip it on. You can flip it back.
The EDD team didn't stop at the switch:
• Creating an order, changing an order's status, or deleting a discount makes WPVibe stop and ask you to approve in your browser
• New discount codes are saved inactive
• Refunds aren't available to AI at all
We built six tested recipes on top of it and checked them against a store with known data. When the sales report said 8 orders and $213 for the last 30 days, that was right to the dollar.

We have been testing 7.0 since the early beta. Here is everything that's new and what it means for your site.
Here are the standout new features:
🤖 New AI Connectors Screen: A central place to connect your site to AI services without third-party plugins. Choose your provider (OpenAI, Google, or Anthropic), enter credentials once, and every plugin or theme that supports the AI API can tap into that connection.
✨ Refreshed Admin Experience: Cleaner typography, updated colors, and smoother transitions between screens (no more full page reloads when jumping between Posts, Settings, and the editor).
⌘ Command Palette Everywhere: Previously editor-only, now accessible from anywhere with ⌘K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux). Navigate, search, and run actions without touching the mouse.
📱 Responsive Block Visibility: Show or hide any block on desktop, tablet, or mobile without writing a single line of CSS. A feature page builders have offered for years, now built into core.
🕓 Smarter Visual Revisions: Compare two revisions side by side with color-coded overlays. Green = added, Red = removed, Yellow = modified settings. A game-changer for multi-author teams.
✏️ Custom CSS for Individual Blocks: A new Custom CSS field in the block inspector lets you style one specific block without affecting anything else. Live preview included.
🎨 Three New Native Blocks: Icons (with the full WordPress icon library built in), Breadcrumbs (auto-generated trails plus SEO benefits), and a consolidated Headings block (all 6 levels in one).
🖼️ Gallery Lightbox Navigation: Back and next buttons (and arrow key support) finally added to the gallery lightbox.
⚙️ Under the Hood: PHP-only block registration, pseudo-element support in theme.json, WP-CLI 3.0 with new wp block and wp ability commands, Font Library now works on classic themes, and minimum PHP is now 7.4.
⚠️ One Quick Note: Real-time collaboration (RTC) was pulled before release. The core team wasn't confident the current approach was robust enough. Still in active development.
Before you update, back up your WordPress site first. If you run a busy or mission-critical site, test on staging first.
