John Wilson’s new documentary “The History of Concrete” is, of course, about the history of concrete. But it’s also about selling a documentary titled “The History of Concrete,” which, it turns out, is almost as hard as concrete.
“I genuinely did want to make the definitive movie about concrete,” says Wilson. “I ended up incorporating the meta aspects about a year or so into the process, because I felt like that was becoming a more interesting story. And I wanted to make something that another filmmaker could learn something from, about how things are produced, because that was always a mystery to me growing up.”

So at this point, we can say with a reasonable degree of certainty that the image is AI-generated and fake.
But there are still questions around the exact timeline of its circulation. I'm still not sure which version came first, and which exact image was either enhanced or degraded in the process.
We do know that when an image goes very viral and after multiple iterations of it are shared across platforms, the chance of SynthID being detected goes down.
And hopefully, all of this makes it a bit more clear as to why verifying content in the age of AI is now becoming a complex, time-consuming, and lenghty process.
And as gen AI models advance, we should ecpect existing verification processes to become even harder and at times, fall short of providing a defintive answer.
