Ever notice that in Dune humans fly spaceships between planets but don't use a single computer?
That's not a plot hole. It's completely on purpose. The movies barely explain why, but once you know, almost everything else in Dune starts to make sense.
About 10,000 years before Paul Atreides, humans did exactly what we're doing right now. They built thinking machines to make life easier. They let the machines do their work and make their decisions, hoping it would set them free.
Instead, the people who controlled those machines gained the power to enslave everyone else.
Humanity eventually fought back in a holy war called the Butlerian Jihad, and won. The thinking machines were destroyed.
To make sure it would never happen again, they made one rule sacred: "Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind."
But getting rid of computers created a problem: who would do their work? The answer was humans.
Mentats are trained from childhood to think like computers. Navigators use the spice to glimpse the future and steer ships safely through space. The Bene Gesserit spend generations pushing the human mind and body to their limits.
Every superpower in Dune exists for one reason: there are no computers.
That's my favorite thing about Dune. It's also the most terrifying. Dune isn't a future without AI. It's the future after AI.
Frank Herbert wrote that in 1965.

Water was leaking under my kitchen sink.
I searched online. I called a plumbing company with four hundred five-star reviews.
A man arrived in a clean white van. He wore a uniform with three corporate patches. He carried an iPad.
He did not touch a pipe. He pointed an infrared sensor at my drywall, tapped his screen for six minutes, and presented an estimate.
$3,400.
He explained that the entire copper line was compromised. He offered a monthly financing plan.
My lawn guy, Hector, was outside mowing. He saw the white van leave.
He walked over and asked what happened. I showed him the iPad quote.
Hector did not laugh. He looked angry. The kind of quiet anger you see when someone tries to shortchange an old woman at a register.
"Give me twenty minutes," he said.
At 1:15, an unmarked burgundy Chevy rolled into my driveway. A man named Rick got out. Rick had dry hands and wore an oil-stained gray T-shirt.
Rick crawled under my sink. He stayed down there for seven minutes.
He replaced a ninety-cent rubber gasket, tightened the brass nut half a turn, and turned the valve.
The leak stopped.
I asked what I owed him.
He looked at my refrigerator, saw a two-liter bottle of Mountain Dew, and said, "Give me forty bucks and that soda."
I gave him fifty and the soda. He looked at the extra ten-dollar bill, looked at me, and handed it back.
"Don't do that," he said.
There are two economies running in this country. One is traded on Wall Street and operates on fear.
The other is traded on copper washers, runs on soda, and is guarded by men who will not let their neighbors get robbed.

Walter Koenig made Star Trek history w/his voice cameo in the 2023 series finale of "Picard."
He didn't appear as Pavel Chekov; but rather President Anton Chekov, leader of the United Federation of Planets; the son of his original character.
The name was a tribute to Anton Yelchin, who'd died in 2016 and had played Chekov in the JJ Abrams films.
This made Walter the last of the original cast to appear in a Star Trek series.

R.I.P Mr. Walter Koenig.
❤️
I have had the privilege of getting to know Walter over the years.
I will always remember his humor, humility, and legendary contribution to STAR TREK as Chekov!

Help me start a thread of remarkable South Africans who are not in the limelight.
I begin Ans Botha:
At 74 she guided Wayde van Niekerk to Olympic gold and a 400m world record of 43.03 seconds at Rio 2016. At 83, she was still coaching in 2025.
A remarkable South African woman whose patience, wisdom and dedication helped make sporting history

How did putting odds on AI-driven human extinction become such a prominent part of the conversation about AI's future?
I've spent two weeks reporting on the people, institutions and ideas behind the evolution of AI doom forecasting — and the questions it raises about how we understand and communicate risk.
My deep dive publishes tomorrow in Ground Level AI.

🚀 AI Unified Process Marketplace 3.0 is here!
The marketplace has a new architecture: one plugin per technical layer instead of one plugin for an entire technology stack.
Why? Because every project is different, and your development workflow should reflect that.
With Marketplace 3.0, you can:
🔹 Combine plugins for your specific technology stack
🔹 Reuse the core for implementation, testing and coverage analysis
🔹 Add new technologies without building an entire stack plugin
🔹 Keep things modular and use only what your project needs
The marketplace now separates the process from the technology stack. The AI Unified Process stays the same, while the plugins provide the technology-specific capabilities.
Less duplication. More flexibility. Easier to extend.
As always, I build this to solve real problems in real projects. Eat your own dog food!

Tampoco.
No denuncié a nadie.

Quick, who is using AI agents to fix all the shit that is happening this week in the cyber security space?
Please report back when done.
This make me think we need a #paketo buildpack that will provide bocked list for known compromised certs which will make it easy to just recreate containers, push and update deployments.
Fellow #java developers you are likely affected by the #eMudhras CA compromise.
Let's fix your @java and @graalvm installations and apps:

Maybe someone should use that remote execution vulnerability to patch the servers. 🤔
I think @SynStalker is going to have a busy week.
