What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work. My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.

We are a nation of animal lovers - pigs are intelligent animals that deserve to be treated with care and respect throughout their lives including at slaughter.   The public want to know the meat they buy in the shops is produced in a way that supports high standards of animal welfare. These plans will help deliver that and reduce unnecessary suffering. We are committed to supporting farmers and businesses make this transition which will bring long-term benefits👇🏻 gov.uk/government/news/new-p…

– at Galicia, Spain

It was a pleasure to host you in Gibraltar @Lord_Bilimoria and to hear you speak so eloquently in @UKHouseofLords debate on the UK 🇬🇧 EU🇪🇺 Agreement on Gibraltar 🇬🇮
I was proud to be in Gibraltar as a member of the UK Parliamentary delegation for Gibraltar National Day on 10 September where I met Chief Minister @FabianPicardo , and this week I spoke in the House of Lords in the debate on the UK-EU treaty regarding Gibraltar, the crowning achievement of Fabian Picardo’s nearly 15 years in office. The treaty is a model for the UK and should be the first step in rebuilding our relationship with Europe. @GibraltarGov

My new article in @britwildlife argues that the GCSE in Natural History must keep its nerve: studying nature must remain at its heart. Related issues matter, but they must not crowd out learning to observe, identify and understand the living world.
