This year's Fire Prevention Week theme is “Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging is a Superpower.”
Rechargeable devices are part of everyday life. Phones, laptops, power tools, toys, e-bikes and scooters often rely on lithium-ion batteries. These batteries store a lot of energy in a small space and can become a fire risk if damaged or charged improperly.
Choose a safe spot to charge your devices. Charge devices on a hard, flat surface where heat can escape. Never charge on beds, couches, pillows or other soft surfaces, and keep devices away from anything that can burn.
Make safe charging your superpower all year long and visit fpw.org/ to learn more.
The Town of Castle Rock annually receives federal Community Development Block Grant funding to address certain needs within Castle Rock.
Community input guides the Town’s use of this funding. To date, the grant has been used to help support low- to moderate-income seniors living within Castle Rock and to make accessibility improvements at Town facilities. In the 2025 to 2026 program year, $277,742 was made available to the Town through the CDBG program.
The community is invited to attend a public hearing Monday, Oct. 26, to view a presentation reporting the accomplishments and expenditures for the Town’s CDBG-funded initiatives during the 2025 to 2026 program year. The Town has also completed an amendment to its Citizen Participation Plan, which will also be available for discussion during the hearing.
Public comments are encouraged following the presentation.
This in-person meeting will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 100 N. Wilcox St. This meeting is open to the public and all persons are welcome.
The report can be viewed at crgov.com/CDBG beginning Tuesday, Oct. 27, through Wednesday, Nov. 25. Hard copies will also be available for review at the Development Services window in Town Hall and the Philip & Jerry Miller Library, located at 100 S. Wilcox St. Written comments are encouraged through Nov. 25 and can be mailed or delivered to Becky Bland at 100 N. Wilcox St., Castle Rock, 80104, or via email to [email protected].
The final report of accomplishments and expenditures of the Town’s CDBG program will be received at the Tuesday, Dec. 15, Town Council meeting.
Additional information about the CDBG program is available at CRgov.com/CDBG. If you have questions, contact Becky Bland at [email protected].

Town of Castle Rock Parks and Recreation has again earned national accreditation, reaffirming its commitment to thoughtful planning, responsible stewardship and quality services for residents.
The Parks and Recreation Department received reaccreditation through the National Recreation and Park Association's Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies. CAPRA is the only national accreditation program for parks and recreation agencies.
The department demonstrated compliance with 154 nationally recognized standards related to the management and administration of parks, open space, trails, facilities, programs, safety and services. The reaccreditation process, required every five years, includes a detailed self-assessment, a comprehensive review of supporting documentation and an on-site evaluation by trained CAPRA peer reviewers.
“CAPRA reaccreditation gives our community confidence that the parks, facilities, programs and services they enjoy are backed by strong, efficient and accountable operations,” said Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Brauer. “Maintaining accreditation takes a tremendous commitment from staff across the department to continually evaluate our work against national best practices, look for ways to improve and use community resources responsibly. That work happens behind the scenes, but residents experience the results every day.”
That commitment guides the department’s work as it stewards the recently opened Lost Canyon Ranch Open Space and constructs the Castle Rock Sports Center. The team also manages 25 parks, more than 104 miles of trails and more than 4,000 acres of open space, along with recreation facilities, programs, athletics, aquatics, golf and community events.
First accredited in 2015 and reaccredited in 2020, Castle Rock Parks and Recreation is one of only 232 CAPRA-accredited agencies nationwide and 13 in Colorado. It is also one of just two accredited Colorado agencies to have twice received a National Gold Medal Award from NRPA for excellence in parks and recreation management.

A safer home can start with a better charging habit. During Fire Prevention Week, Castle Rock Fire and Rescue is highlighting simple steps residents can take to reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires.
This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” applies to devices used every day, from phones and laptops to e-bikes and scooters. Fire departments are reporting an increasing number of lithium-ion battery fires and explosions. Damaged or improperly charged batteries can overheat, start a fire or explode.
