🚨The government of Kenya has proposed alcohol regulation Bill seeks to tighten control over the manufacturing, sale, transportation, and marketing of alcoholic beverages through several key measures:
Age Restrictions: Raises the legal drinking age from 18 to 21. It strictly prohibits the sale or supply of alcohol to anyone under 21 and bars individuals under 21 from entering licensed premises, even with an adult.
Advertising & Marketing Limits: Bans all online advertising and brand promotions for alcohol. Advertisements across traditional media must receive approval from a regulatory committee before broadcast or publication.
Sales & Location Controls: Prohibits alcohol sales within 300 meters of learning institutions and restricts sales in public places.
Manufacturing & Logistics Rules: Introduces a KES 2 per liter levy on alcohol manufacturers. Alcohol distribution transport is limited to between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, and commercial distribution vehicles must display specific branding.
Penalties:
* Selling alcohol to individuals under 21 carries a fine of up to KES 150,000, up to one year in prison, or both.
* Prohibited online promotion carries a fine of up to KES 500,000, up to three years in prison, or both.
