#Apple folks: Does it make sense to buy a MacBook in 2024 with only 16GB of RAM?

We get to take electrified Caltrain service because our leaders worked across the aisle to get federal funding while Trump was POTUS. Transit projects on the West Coast also create jobs in red and swing states. That's the inroad. It isn’t over for transit 🚂⚡️

Climate change seems to have completely disappeared as a primary issue in US politics, according to this NBC poll.

C++ should really include a "fn" keyword (or similar). Trailing return types with `auto`, e.g., `auto main() -> int`, look confusing.

What's a good paper/resource to introduce people to SGX or TEEs in general these days? Back in my day, we read Intel's developer guide, but that was no fun.

"Cat 6" is trending, and I thought people were excited about networking...

Sounds like someone messed with the catenary wires or power lines. 😳
Replying to @Caltrain
Caltrain holds the safety of the public & its employees as its highest priority: it is both extremely dangerous to interfere with overhead wires & a felony in the state of California.

Do I know someone here who works at @gradescope ? I ran into a bug in the autograder and support is MIA.

I cannot believe the Trump "cryptocurrency" is just a fungible token on #Solana. But, hey, it will also be used as a "governance token, specifically for voting purposes". I am not sure what they plan to govern or vote on, and I do not think they are either.

Like, I thought they would at least do some kind of hard fork. This is less work than what was put into creating Dodgecoin.

I died a little inside when I learned this: > When developers remove their projects from the PyPI repository, the associated package names immediately become available for registration by any other user. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ @jfrog researchers found that >22K packages could be hijacked in this way And when the researchers proactively registered these packages, they got 1000s of downloads in a few days, and have ~200K downloads in 3 months. jfrog.com/blog/revival-hijac…

Am I bad at searching or is there no good and well-tested #Rust implementation of Paxos yet?

The closet thing I can find is TiKVs Raft implementation (and one can argue that Raft is an instantiation of Paxos)

I switched back to Windows so I can use a better presentation software, and I got this.

I'm on an electric @Caltrain train. This is not a drill!

Sometimes I perceive reading/writing emails as very inconvenient, but then someone sends me a voice message and I remember how much worse online communication can be.

I should know this, but do Linux files or mmap have "transactions"? What I mean is that I would like to write to it and only persist changes to disk on "commit" (msync/fsync).

Or in other words: I want to only write to pages in memory and atomically flush all dirty pages to disk.
