SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026) Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love. We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway. America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire. His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen. Ian McKellen 29 October 2026 Photo: University of Huddersfield

We have an answer! The power plant supporting the new Meta data center will require 1.25 million liters of water a day. Currently, Sturgeon County uses 1.1 million liters of water a day municipally. So, this power plant doubles the water requirements. H/t @SilentSnow89!
Smith is making a big deal of the fact that the Meta center is supposed to be using closed loop cooling... But the power plant, Project Greenlight says in its application it's going to be pulling the water for the plant from Sturgeon County's municipal water... How much?

Another extremely perceptive analysis here. AB, the richest province, is also the only large province to have *decreased* hospital funding over the last decade. The result? Dramatic increases in ER wait times and ER deaths. Does GoA think this cost-effective?

A “fiercely loyal” Canadian would not have spent two years trying to burn down Canada. A “fiercely loyal” Canadian would not have made a deal with separatists to give them everything they wanted. A “fiercely loyal” Canadian would not ride the fence and only say she stood for Canada when it became politically convenient. Danielle Smith is not an innocent bystander. She cannot blame 700,000 Albertans for this. She has been driving the separatist bus the entire time.
I am fiercely loyal to Alberta and Canada and will be voting for our province to remain in confederation Kicking the can down the road only prolongs an emotional and important debate, and muzzling the voices of hundreds of thousands of Albertans who want to be heard is unjustifiable in a free and democratic society. It’s time to have a vote, understand the will of Albertans, and move on. Read my full op-ed here: calgaryherald.com/opinion/co…

Today, Rajan Sawhney had the opportunity to be a deciding vote and stop the madness of a referendum on separation. She did not. And at least one person in the Gallery called her and the rest of the UCP out. (Watch to the end) #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

#ableg Danielle Smith just promoted Jason Nixon to Finance Minister today….replacing Nate Horner who resigned in disgust over the separation referendum Let’s talk about who Jason Nixon ACTUALLY is.. and it’s NOT good 🧵
Jason Nixon spent almost all of his time speaking at today’s committee ranting about the importance of the democratic process… All the while knowing that the process meant nothing and the fix was in. Hard to imagine something more craven than that… #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

.@ABDanielleSmith now we know. You decided to give separatists a referendum and you already pre-recorded your tomorrow’s TV announcement, before the Legislature committee even had a chance to vote on the #ForeverCanadian petition. The 500,000 Albertans don’t matter. #ableg

Fresh blog: Six reasons to stop relying on the NPi (neurological pupil index) 👁️ NPi is based on a secret, proprietary formula used by one company 👁️ The neuroICU field was somehow convinced that we're too stupid to understand pupillometry tracings, so we need the NPi...(#1/2)

ScvO2 is so hot right now. About a decade ago we had a patient in shock with terrible echo windows. ScvO2 was high, so the team thought sepsis. Antibiotics failed. Autopsy showed MI. We had an M&M conference. Everyone was confused about why the ScvO2 misled us. … #1/2
