Self-awareness supports mental wellbeing, including being attuned to our individual needs, limits, and emotions, and knowing which coping strategies work for us.
Schools can support women and girl’s mental health and prevent suicide by providing proactive individual and group support.
Finding ways to balance the different parts of self – the emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical – can help keep us mentally healthy and guard against the risk of suicide.
Gender inequality can lead women to feel overwhelmed and stressed, increasing the likelihood of depression and anxiety. Mental health supports can help women cope with their mental health struggles and guard them against thinking about suicide.
Women affected by domestic abuse and intimate partner violence are more likely to consider suicide. Governments and civil society can provide adequate legal and social responses to partner violence and sexual assault to help prevent it.
In the days and weeks following an employee death by suicide, workplaces should identify any employees who are particularly affected and reach out to them to offer further supports if necessary.
