By removing used cars, food, energy and housing you are stripping off over 60% of CPI components. It's like saying Italy sucks if you don't account for weather, cuisine, art and nice people.

Worrying trend in VC: Everyone is moving downstream, earlier & earlier. With the movement, growth investors are writing “small” checks (for them, 2-10M). Their diligence plummets. Bar lowers. They do “interesting” deals. Decent market, decent founder, meh, sure? Wow. 😬

The overwhelming evidence for 3rd shot boosters *before* Omicron, reinforced by new data for benefit vs Omicron 1. The randomized trial of 3 shots vs 2 shots + placebo, 95% efficacy for preventing symptomatic infections across all age 16+ groups (N=10,125) cdc.gov/vaccines/acip/meetin…

Most important thing against Delta is more people vaccinated. Boosters help individuals but don't help society as much as incremental new vaxxed folks.
THINK LIKE AN EPIDEMIOLOGIST: The CDC’s recent announcement that the Delta variant has an average reproductive number of 6-9 has a lot of people concerned & many are asking me about whether this means we need COVID boosters. Let’s talk through the math of how we might decide!

We've seen a stampede of unicorns in Europe - 16 new unicorns in Q1 2021 compared to 15 for all of 2020 - and this is breeding a new generation of European founders. We're here to back them. 🌓🔥

Just shows how tough it is to have strict guidelines – it's not like there's a magic barrier that kicks in at 6 feet. It's all maddeningly probabilistic. And, as virus prevalence in a region rises, a low-odds exposure type (10-20 ft away, indoors & unmasked) gets riskier.
#Airborne transmission from 20 ft distance after just 5 min of exposure. CCTV footage showed source patient (B) had no direct contact w/infected (B) seated 20 ft away, or (C) seated 14 ft away. AC unit may've aided airflow. NOTE: restaurant lacked windows & ventilation system.

Covid (@UCSF) Chronicles, Day 237 Didn't plan to tweet today, but can’t resist a few quick takes on @pfizer vaccine news tinyurl.com/yygwoxwf 90% efficacy is far better than even most optimistic projections. An election analogy: these are CA results, rather than PA. (1/16)

My #Solvable interview w the brilliant Michael Mina, who thinks there is a very straightforward and doable way to end Covid. Listen and get angry about how dumb we all are. podcasts.pushkin.fm/solvable…
Superb thread about weighing risk and benefits in covidworld
1/ Covid (@UCSF) Chronicles, Day 181 Today marks a half-year of Covid. We’re increasingly told that "it’s vital that we remain vigilant.” But what exactly does that mean? So today: how to make sound decisions about risk in the face of uncertainty, longing, frustration & fear.

People can't stop talking about schools and #COVID19 Here's a thread on school transmission studies! Summary: - If prevalence high in the community, it will be high in schools and some will transmit - Isolated cases result in low transmission - Infection prevention works 1/11
