Impact, a track record of improving things, is objective. Its much harder to game.
The challenge for society today is more than simple participation in economies, academics, the arts, etc.
It’s about impact.
#meritocracy does not equal impact. Impact equals impact.

Let’s also be blunt about “merit.” Its subjective. It can be gamed.
#meritocracy is whatever the person in charge thinks is valuable, and stats are decision-makers remain white and male. It’s human nature to value what is familiar and devalue what is not.
