En Cisjordanie, l’impossible cohabitation

The Israeli PM often paints settler violence as the work of a tiny, fringe minority.
But the Israeli government has legalized dozens of illegal outposts that have carried out that violence. Outposts like Esh Kodesh.
Watch our full report here:
Israeli settlements have massively expanded in the occupied West Bank under the current Israeli government – along with a major spike in violent attacks on Palestinians. @JDiamond1 reports on how the government has allowed this and whether elections could prompt any change.

Journalist/activist @the_andrey_x — who filmed the assault on WaPo’s Heidi Levine last week — was just arrested by Israeli forces.
Dozens of other Jewish solidarity activists, including @bradlander & @rabbis4HR activists, were also detained at another olive grove in the West Bank
Twelve soldiers + police showed up in Taybeh olive field to stop a single Palestinian olive farmer from harvesting a single tree. After harassing him for 30+ minutes, a car full of some sort of special police officers stormed in and violently arrested the journalist/activist @the_andrey_x. One of the arresting officers shoved me, then showed me his bloody elbow and said I did it to him. (So if they take me next, that’s probably their pretense.) Second and third videos are other angle of the shove (including it here to be safe). Fourth video is from just before—the major military operation to stop a farmer from picking olives. Fascist state.

"Allegedly assaulted."
It's literally on video.
The Prime Minister’s Office:
The facts surrounding the confrontation near Abu Falah, during which Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine was allegedly assaulted, remain unclear and are under investigation.
Israel unequivocally condemns violence against anyone—Jews, Arabs, Christians or journalists. Those responsible will be held accountable.
But serious questions remain. Reports indicate some 200 Arabs and far-left activists confronted approximately 40 Israeli youths. Footage shows masked individuals on both sides hurling objects, amid reports of fireworks fired at Jewish youths. Other footage appears to show Levine knocked down and immediately helped to her feet by the same unidentified individual.
The investigation must establish the facts, including who initiated the violence.
We will not allow disputed incidents to be exploited to demonize the hundreds of thousands of law-abiding Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria.
The facts must determine the conclusions. Not the headlines.

Israeli settler terrorists armed with sticks attacked Bernard Baudoux, the mayor of Aulnoye-Aymeries in northern France, and knocked him to the ground.
His town is twinned with the Christian village of Taybeh.

💥Netanyahu's shameful statement– only in English, during the Sabbath– about today's settler attack against Palestinians and @washingtonpost photographer @Heidiphotos. Given filmed evidence, you can stop reading after "Heidi Levine was allegedly assaulted."

While covering the latest Israeli settler attack in the West Bank, Israeli soldiers assaulted my photojournalist @cyrilthps and detained my team.
But our 2-hour detention revealed a lot about the motives of these Israeli soldiers: acting in service of the settler movement.

Q: What you’re saying is that for political reasons, hostages died, were murdered in captivity when they could have come home alive?
Netanyahu’s former military secretary: “That is accurate. They could have come home earlier.”
💥 The general who woke Netanyahu on the morning of Oct. 7 just broke his silence.
He says:
⚠️ Netanyahu was warned of war 3 months earlier
⚠️ Logs from Oct 7 have been tampered
⚠️ Hostages “could have come back earlier”

And so, when Netanyahu boasts of bringing "every last" hostage home, many families are infuriated. Rachel Goldberg-Polin -- whose son Hersh survived 328 days in captivity before being executed by Hamas as IDF troops unknowingly closed in on their location -- sums it up best /6

That's why many hostage families we spoke to, like Yuval Dancyg, said they hold Hamas AND the Israeli gov responsible for their loved ones' deaths. Because 'total victory' was prioritized over hostage deals. And because military pressure inevitably led to some hostages being killed by the IDF /5
