People don't realize enough that @obsdmd is a powerful platform; not just a note-taking app!
Through different plugins, I can:
- Write a journal
- Manage ALL my work (goals, plans, projects, tasks)
- Perform periodic reviews
- Publish notes, articles and newsletters
A few weeks into a project, its information lives in email threads, chat messages, slide decks and a couple of people's heads.
Then someone asks where it stands, and the only way to find out is a meeting.
The fix: one home per project, documentation as part of done, a board and an executive summary.

How I organized the Quick Actions panel in my Obsidian vault:
1. Capture: one button per daily note section
2. Open: today, Actions, Time base, Life Tracker
3. Periods: this week, month, quarter, year
4. Navigate: previous/next from any periodic note

Deleted a note by accident? Check in this order: the trash, File Recovery, Sync version history, git, your backups.
File Recovery takes a snapshot every 5 minutes by default and keeps them 7 days.
Part 6 is out. It also covers the CLI, mobile, and search that misses a note 👇

Some files can't live in your vault: a contract in a shared drive, a big video, a shared spreadsheet.
Write a small pointer note for each one: a real name, a type, a few properties and the link.
Your vault stays the one place to look first.
Chapter 3 of The Obsidian Search Handbook ends with exactly this exercise: write one pointer note. Chapter 7 covers the rest of what lives outside your vault.

Can you search and replace across all your Obsidian notes?
Not in core Obsidian. Ctrl+H only works in the current note.
Plugins like Find-n-Replace and Regex Replace fill the gap, and so does any editor with project-wide replace. Commit or back up first.
I cover a ton more things in my latest book:
