The Exponential Editions just dropped and I want to highlight the work we're doing on risk and disputes.
As merchants scale, it is inevitable you will get disputes. It's a really frustrating experience for banks to deem merchants guilty until proven innocent, requires a PhD in network guidelines to win, and can be 3-4x the cost of selling. Shopify is leaning in with our scale to help.
the result: up to 1.6× higher dispute win rates since we started.
@Shopify is putting its scale behind preventing and winning disputes:
[1] know what you’re fighting. When the bank shares the customer’s explanation, we show merchants the actual claim, beyond a generic dispute reason code.
[2] less toil. Shopify automatically adds transaction-level evidence and available carrier proof of delivery. We only ask merchants for evidence that we don't have on platform
[3] help merchants recover more. Our model is trained specifically on disputes across Shopify merchants and card network evidence requirements. It uses merchant context and evidence to write a defence banks can understand.

Today, we’re expanding our partnership with @Shopify beyond finding, buying and tracking orders from Shopify stores. Now, your Instinct can use Shop Pay at any online store.
The card and address you've already saved in Shop Pay now work across stores that aren’t on Shopify, too. This makes it easy for your Instinct to make secure purchases on your behalf.
You approve every purchase in Shop Pay, and your card details never leave Shop Pay.

I’m getting close to 10 years at @Shopify and I’ve been thinking about how far we’ve come. Ten years ago, Shopify was the online store builder. A lot of people still think of us that way but we’re so much more than that.
We’ve banded together all these entrepreneurs. Thinking about how we can use the collective to help every single merchant on the platform is the fun part.
The Exponential theme of this Edition is perfect for the moment we’re in. It’s about the flywheel. Every merchant that joins Shopify benefits from every other merchant that has ever been on Shopify. The more merchants there are, the better Shopify gets for everyone.
We built a lot over the last six months: Shop Pay in agents, shop.dev, retail customer recognition, Shopify Protect and new stuff in Sidekick. It’s all in the Edition.

what a privilege to be in the fight. you get to wake up and throw everything you have at a target way out of your reach. you get to fail, absorb the damage, and come back with a better understanding of what it takes. you get to chase things that might be completely beyond you, just to see what happens when you refuse to quit. and then you get to, God willing, wake up tomorrow and do it all again. what a gift.
