Total US output went from 17.3 to 39.1 mboe/d. Of the 21.8 mboe/d added, shale brought 20.5 and NGL 5.4, while conventional oil and gas lost 4.1.
One basin carries much of the load. Permian shale alone produced about 9.6 mboe/d in 2025, roughly a quarter of all US oil and gas.
