From the end of this month, lenders can do more lending at four and a half times income or above. The 15% cap on that lending is going for individual lenders, as long as the market as a whole stays around that level. Something about it niggles me, as if it isn’t quite the right thing to do. I get it. Everything costs more, and lenders and buyers have to work with what they have. If the rules can be pushed a little further to help people onto the ladder, lenders will do it, and helping people buy a home is commendable. More than half of this lending goes to first time buyers. But five years ago, the cost of living was a lot lower and many people were fixing at under 2%. Even then, I saw plenty of people taking mortgages that felt like a stretch. Now the people who fixed for five years are coming off onto far higher rates and far higher payments. I’ve always wondered how some of them are doing. My worry is the people who’ll now stretch themselves further, borrowing a high share of the price on a high multiple of their income. I understand rent can cost as much as a mortgage, so they’re often stretched either way. It feels like an impossible problem. The good thing is that it’s checked every quarter and can be reined in if it becomes an issue. Although for a borrower who’s already struggling, that can be too late. I may be wrong, and I’m not inside the regulators’ numbers. That’s just how it looks from where I’ve sat. mortgagestrategy.co.uk/news/…

I’m far too old to be watching these streams, but live trading in front of thousands of people takes serious guts and conviction. I could barely read a book aloud without making a mistake, let alone trade with everyone watching and judging every move. Fair play to everyone putting themselves out there.
Time to find out who's all talk. Our in-person trading competition is officially live. Featuring some of the biggest traders on CT. Watch here, streamed from Singapore: nitter.cf/i/broadcasts/1oKMvNpOr…

Good piece from @unlockbc on why tokenised bank deposits seem to be moving quicker than stablecoins in the UAE. Both HSBC's and Citi's services have gone live and FAB and Mashreq have both done live transactions on Swifts new ledger. The dirham stablecoin projects are still working their way through the central bank. It makes sense when you think about it. A tokenised deposit starts from a place the bank already knows: the customer, the compliance, the liquidity. Its a new layer on top of things that already exist. A stablecoin has to build all of that around the token before it can do anything, and that takes time, not just to earn trust but to get through the regulatory and compliance hurdles. I think thats true of new tech generally, not just stablecoins. The thing that already has the trust and the plumbing will typically move first, given the shiny new thing has to earn both.

We're kicking off The Final Arc, a four-week trading competition marking Extended's migration to @arc. - 750,000 Xpoints + 250,000 USDC prize pool - All crypto and RWA markets are eligible - October 6 to November 2 Weekly Xpoints epochs have concluded. The remaining Xpoints will be distributed through The Final Arc. This will be the final Xpoints distribution, and total Xpoints remain capped at 70 million. Accounts with elevated API limits (market makers) are not eligible for the competition, so all Xpoints in The Final Arc go to traders. The Final Arc runs through the forthcoming migration, with trading expected to continue uninterrupted. Migration details, including any action required, will be shared shortly. Rewards will be distributed according to the competition methodology. Full details, eligibility and rules: docs.extended.exchange/exten… Eligibility restrictions apply. The Final Arc is subject to the Competition Terms and eligibility requirements, and Extended may modify, suspend or cancel it. Xpoints have no monetary value and are governed by the Points Programme Terms. Perpetual derivative contracts do not provide ownership of, or shareholder or other rights in, the underlying assets. Availability is subject to eligibility and jurisdictional restrictions. Trading involves leverage and significant risk, including possible total loss.

A week and a half ago the UAE changed something thats pretty interesting. Almost every institution licensed by the Central Bank will be able to run virtual asset services (trading, custody, platforms) under the licence it already holds. Without having to set up a separate company and with no second set of capital and governance. I think it shows you who the UAE expects to lead this side of the market: regulated banks, rather than just crypto firms. pinsentmasons.com/out-law/ne…

Migration to Arc. Extended is migrating to Arc as part of a strategic partnership between Circle and Extended focused on three core pillars: 1. Anchoring on-chain trading on Arc, with Circle as a key stakeholder in Extended’s ecosystem 2. Tokenising RWAs while bringing broader market coverage and deeper liquidity across both spot and perpetual markets 3. Distributing trading products within and beyond crypto, directly and through Tier 1 institutional partnerships Beyond the commercial rationale, Arc is also a strong technical fit for Extended: • Deterministic sub-second finality • Predictable, dollar-based gas fees • EVM compatibility The migration is being designed to minimize disruption for users and ensure uninterrupted trading. More details on the partnership, migration timeline, and mechanics will be shared separately. Users will be notified of any action required on their part ahead of migration.
