Would love to see developers build suburbia like this.

Future Mississauga needed more room. I moved hundreds of model files to Cloudflare, keeping the main site on GitHub and the detail intact. Thanks to everyone sending photos, drawings and corrections. You're helping make this so much better. futuremississauga.com

My Caps Lock extension is now live on the Raycast Store. Toggle Caps Lock from Raycast or a hotkey, even if you've remapped the key to Hyper, Escape or Control. raycast.com/itsdanielsultan/…

Back in March, I posted about changing my banner to a photo of Mississauga’s skyline I’d found online. Now I get to replace it with my own render of how downtown could grow. Pretty proud to have something I made representing the city I live in.

A subway to Square One? I emailed City staff for the old studies and put the maps, history and three 3D route sketches on one page so others don’t have to. Independent visualisations, not approved routes. futuremississauga.com/subway…

Here is a thread of more renders of the Mississauga skyline
I taught myself Blender and spent the last 6 months modelling what Mississauga is going to look like. Towers, transit, the whole downtown. It’s live and you can click around it: futuremississauga.ca 🧵

Once I had the main model and structure in place, I used AI to help with some of the harder parts: fixing bugs, repairing geometry, converting models, writing Blender rendering scripts and building parts of the website. I directed the project, designed nearly all the models and reviewed, tested and refined the results for nearly six months. The result is Future Mississauga: skyline pictures, neighbourhood comparisons and an interactive 3D model covering Downtown, Port Credit, Lakeview, Clarkson and more. It includes the Hurontario LRT, GO corridors and Transitway.

I absolutely love it, but it does have some limits, to be fair. Proposed buildings aren’t guaranteed to happen, some forms are schematic, and parts of Lakeview still don't have good enough reports for me to make accurate models. I made sure to note down all parts that I was uncertain about.

Reasonable take. Canada takes a softer approach: immigrants can keep their culture while their kids, and their kids’ kids, naturally become culturally indistinguishable from other Canadians. Our weakness is retention. Nearly 1 in 4 Canadian computer-science graduates from top universities are no longer in Canadian tax records three years later. We should aim to keep 80–90% of our best people because they freely choose Canada, not because we trap them with bans or exit taxes (the NDP should realize this.) That means competing with the U.S. on pay, opportunity and the ability to build.
America was built by the world's greatest and most driven immigrants FOR the world's greatest and most driven immigrants. Yes, yes... the border should be secured, and there should be zero illegal immigration -- we're all in agreement on that. And we should seal that border so we can RECRUIT the best and brightest people from around the world, especially from our rivals like China, Russia or Iran. Every time an elite performer switches teams and goes from an authoritarian country to the world's greatest democracy, America, that is a major win for humanity and freedom. Note: these individuals must commit fully to assimilating into the American way of life and be part of the "Great Melting Pot." Finally, there is the issue of full employment for Americans. We are at the lowest unemployment of our lifetimes right now. This is as good as it gets. We shouldn't be using the H1B visa system to replace Americans with cheap labor, as I've been saying for over a decade. I'm extremely happy that President Trump took my suggestion to put a massive tax on the H1B program, because once you add $20,000 -- let alone $100,000 -- to a visa, you get rid of all the folks trying to hire $50,000 IT folks from India to replace $75,000 ones in America. I saw H1B abuse firsthand in the 1990s when I worked at SONY -- where the IT department used the program to create indentured servitude. It was cruel and disgusting then, as it is now, and it should be called out now and stopped.

Incentives matter a lot. I hope news orgs (and their subscribers) realise that looking down on success will rationally make fewer people aim for success.

More mentorship, More companies, More Capital, Simpler Laws/Regulation, More housing. All obvious, but less so: perception! If you’re successful in the US, you get praised. Forbes, etc If you’re successful in Canada, you get shit on by CBC/Globe and Mail

Introducing investmentregulation.ca Quick context: I'm 18 and I work in financial sales. I just shipped, in my opinion, the best way to master the CIRE. For context, you need the Canadian Investment Regulatory Exam to advance in the finance industry. The official prep material is three PDFs and they assume you already understand the fundamentals. If you don't, tough luck. There's no way in. I built a course that starts with "What is Investing" and builds up to CIRE's rule book over 69 lessons. It then drills you with spaced repetition, flash cards, a 100-question bank, a timed speed round (like Kahoot), and full mock exams so you're prepared A to Z on the topic. It took me three weeks to build it. I sketched the layout on paper first, built a large part of the UI and CSS by hand, and then used the AI to help with the rest. After that I spent a week and a half tweaking it in GitHub to make it exactly perfect. Here's an example of what that means: I ran the Question Bank through a statistical check and found the correct answer with the longest option 72% of the time, against 25% by chance a candidate could have scored well without reading the questions. I rerouted the distractors across 98 questions and brought it to 35%. It's free, requires no account, extremely fast, and keeps all progress on your own device. I also made it open source under MIT so that anyone can audit it and perhaps fork it to adapt to other countries' investment regulation exams. I'm sitting the exam myself using it. investmentregulation.ca Let me know what you think of it.
