👀 more high-quality evidence on eviction’s deadly consequences. @NickGraetz @ps_hepburn and @cgershenson on a roll with this impactful work.
Housing instability, as measured by eviction filings, was associated with significantly increased risk of death over the first 20 months of the COVID-19 pandemic. Eviction prevention efforts may have reduced excess mortality for renters during this period. ja.ma/3T4KjJL

Research has found that high rent can negatively impact health & life spans. The only way to reverse this health trend, according to Prof. @danyakeene, is to address the housing crisis. “We’re not going to solve the problem without creating more housing."

Rents have surged and homelessness is at record heights, but fewer of the poorest tenants get housing assistance.
“What we have by design is a housing lottery, where only one in every five eligible households gets assistance.”

Excited that our article is out showing what we learned from pandemic-related eviction moratoria and what we need to be doing differently to prevent elections. Honoured to work with coauthors @danyakeene @emilyabenfer @ps_hepburn Whitney Denary and Anna Kopolka.
New publication in collaboration with the @evictionlab! Findings demonstrate how moratoriums supported renters and how they fell short, offering important lessons for future eviction-prevention.

COVID-era policies cut evictions by more than half. For many, these protections were a lifesaver. For some, they were difficult to access. Our researchers spoke with tenants to better understand how eviction moratoriums helped and where they fell short.🧵
