The family stickers are such a small detail, but they completely change the way that voice message feels. At first, Bryan is still trying to process the idea of becoming a father. He’s hesitant, overwhelmed, and clearly not sure what his future is supposed to look like. Then, after everything that happens in Raccoon City, he finally reaches the point where he accepts it. He finally understands what he has to lose. And that’s when it becomes absolutely devastating. Because Bryan isn’t just realizing that he’s infected. He’s realizing that the future he had just started accepting might never happen. He’s thinking about Michelle, their unborn child, and the fact that he might never get to meet them. That voice message becomes less about explaining himself and more like a final attempt to leave something behind. The cruelest part is that he spends the movie trying to get through one impossible situation after another, and when he finally finds a reason to keep fighting beyond himself, that’s when his body starts taking the choice away from him. He went from not knowing if he was ready to be a father to desperately wishing he could live long enough to become one. Bryan didn’t just lose his life. He lost the future he had only just learned to want.
The moment Bro Realized he failed 😭💔 #ResidentEvil

I actually think that’s what made the ending work. Bryan’s entire story was about fighting to survive, so seeing him finally lose that battle is what makes it tragic. He wasn’t simply turned into a monster and forgotten. We watched him resist the mutation, beg for the cure, and desperately hold on to his humanity because he wanted to make it back home. The ending wasn’t saying his struggle was pointless, it showed just how cruel the Resident Evil world can be. Sometimes fighting as hard as you can still doesn’t guarantee you get to survive. And honestly, that’s what made Bryan’s ending hurt. #ResidentEvil
I really hated the ending of Resident Evil (2026) — it completely ruined the movie for me I watched #residentevil yesterday, and honestly, I really hated the ending. The whole movie, I was invested in his struggle to survive. Everything he goes through is basically about staying alive and making it through. So when it finally gets to the end, he gets turned into a monster… I was just like, seriously? What was the point? I know Resident Evil is supposed to be dark and brutal, but that ending felt so frustrating to me. After watching him fight so hard just to survive, having it end that way made everything he went through feel almost pointless. Did anyone else feel the same way about the ending?

Even though it hurts that Cregger’s Resident Evil isn’t 100% connected to the games, he still somehow made the best RE movie we’ve gotten. The T-Virus twist was different but still felt right, the game references were subtle, and the monsters fit the world. But that ending really got me. Bryan becomes the very kind of monster that would normally hunt someone like Claire, yet here he is desperately begging to be saved. And the fact that Bryan could’ve been saved if the Umbrella scientists had simply done their jobs makes it even more tragic. I really hope Cregger gets another chance to make an RE movie. 👀

On my second watch, this interpretation actually made Bryan’s whole story hit differently. I stopped looking at him like he was supposed to be the next Resident Evil protagonist and started seeing him as a civilian caught in the middle of the outbreak. The things he leaves behind suddenly feel less like missed opportunities and more like breadcrumbs for the survivors who come after him. The voice recording for his girlfriend, the dropped cure, the ammo left on the streets… those could all become pieces of the story for Leon and Claire to discover later. Even the typewriter and herbs are sitting there, but Bryan never interacts with them because they aren’t for him. He isn’t playing the game. He’s just trying to survive it. And honestly, watching it a second time with that perspective makes the ending feel a lot more intentional. #residentevil
