I miss the old days of reading box scores and stats in the paper, so I vibe-coded my own version. It's informed by sabermetrics but still focused on the basics. Just built it for me, but if you're interested: dastudes.github.io/daily/ind…

.920 expected batting average. Crazy play.
When things aren't going your way... Nationals outfielder Jacob Young with one of the crazier circus catches you'll see to keep Brett Baty off the bases:

If anyone still follows me here, it's because I used to write about baseball. I don't do that anymore, but I did recently post my favorite old columns at baseballgraphs.com/. If you want to read what baseball nerds used to discuss, check it out.

It's a line drive/great plays kind of day between the Mets and Nats. In the middle of the fifth, the Mets have 3 hits but a .416 BA. Nats have 2 hits and a .302 BA.

Turns out I have this in common with Steve Martin.
Dick Van Dyke is trending. All for good reasons. As a child I really wanted to be this amazing human. Still do. #dickvandyke

The Mets announcers keep bragging about how good the Mets are at appealing plays. But they don’t understand that a high percentage means you aren’t appealing enough.

I watch baseball on AppleTV but I don’t really listen to the announcers. They just sort of drone on.

If this is correct, it's a steal by the Giants. Not only might J.D. Davis pick it up (decent chance) but there is also a good chance that all three of these P's will make the majors in the bullpen, and at least one of them will probably be a strong bullpen contributor.
The Mets are acquiring Darin Ruf in a deal with the Giants for J.D. Davis and three other players: on.sny.tv/zw4yEK5

I love this and I love that we can now do stuff like this.
The last 4 teams Mets have played: WSH, PHI, SF, COL The 4 worst defenses in MLB: WSH, PHI, SF, COL. (62% of NY's schedule.) On the chicken-or-the-egg of whether it's bad opponents or those teams suffering because they had to face the Mets -- or both. 🍎mlb.com/mets/news/mets-takin…

#Statcast How do we know Catch Probability works? Let's look at current leader and trailer in OAA. I won't even tell you who is who. Let's just look at the data. The bottom shows number of feet to cover from pitch release. The side shows number of seconds to ball landing. 1/8
