🚨 Before everyone rushes to declare the PlayStation Blackout a failure, there’s one date you need to keep in mind: November 5, 2026. That’s when Sony is scheduled to release its FY2026 Q2 earnings. I’m already seeing podcasters, YouTubers, and people across social media jumping the gun and writing off the whole movement. But my question is simple. Based on what numbers? Sony hasn’t reported them yet, and PlayStation is not a separate standalone company. People can have opinions right now. They can look at social media engagement, petition signatures, and trending topics. But they cannot look at Sony’s Q2 financial results, because those numbers have not been released yet. And that matters. Here’s something else people need to understand. Sony’s shareholders do not want to keep opening financial news feeds and investor reports to see the company they own surrounded by negative headlines. Bad press matters. It affects consumer confidence, brand reputation, and investor sentiment. If those things start bleeding into purchasing decisions, subscriptions, or customer retention, eventually it affects the bottom line. That is exactly why corporations spend ungodly amounts of money protecting their image in the first place. So when people say the blackout failed after just 25 days, I think they are getting way ahead of themselves. This is going to take time. Maybe months. And when November 5 does roll around, I want everyone on both sides of this argument to be smart with the data. If PlayStation revenue goes down, that alone does not prove the blackout caused it. If revenue goes up, that alone does not prove the blackout accomplished nothing. Sony is a massive multi-sector corporation, and a lot of things can move quarterly results. But I know one damn thing. They are paying attention, regardless of what they want you to believe. At the very least, November 5 will give us actual financial data to examine instead of people declaring victory or defeat based on clickbait, feelings, and headlines. And let’s not forget what this was really about. Gamers. This was never just about trying to put a temporary dent in Sony’s quarterly revenue. It’s about ownership, physical media, and fair market competition. It’s about whether clicking Buy and Confirm Purchase should leave us with nothing more than a temporary, revocable license controlled entirely by someone else. Whether people like it or not, that conversation is happening right now across gaming media, YouTube, podcasts, and social media. People are talking about digital rights, ownership, preservation, and consumer choice. And that conversation has value. No investor wants the company they back to become synonymous with angry customers, ownership disputes, and endless consumer backlash. Sony needs to understand something very simple. You cannot control the well, the bucket, and the water, then expect customers to never ask who actually owns what they paid for. So don’t rush to bury the PlayStation Blackout. Wait for the numbers. Read the earnings report. Listen closely to what Sony tells its investors. Then we can talk about what the data actually shows.
