Since 11/1/19, the Patriots have won 13 of 31 games. Over that span, 10 teams have won fewer games; 9 of those have changed head coaches. Not suggesting Pats should make a change ... but also not feeling convinced they're headed in the right direction. boston.com/sports/new-englan…

For what it's worth, including the playoffs, it took the Patriots 90 games to incur their previous 18 losses. That stretch spanned more than five years (from 9/30/14-11/2/19).
Hoyer has taken plenty of crap this week (deservedly), but let's not forget that Brady also took a sack that cost the Pats near-certain points at Miami in 2018 ... in the game they later lost via Miracle. GOATS and JAGS alike are prone to bone-headed mistakes.

Celtics' possessions after it was 103-102 Heat: *Miss 3 *Turnover *Miss 3 *Miss 3 *Miss 3 *Miss 3 All of a sudden it's 116-102, and they're done. I get that it's a miss or make league. Doesn't make stretches like that any less infuriating.

7+ years into parenthood, I've never bought my kids a player's jersey or shirt. Can't think of anyone better than Jaylen Brown to be the first.

Sometimes when I'm in need of a smile I like to go look at Pedro's game log from the 2000 season. boston.com/sports/commentary…

Every few days I read about parents struggling to manage their kids' remote school work. I get it. But let's also celebrate the parents finding a way to get it done. The kids doing their best to keep learning. And the parents who'd love the luxury to be both working and at home.
Go ahead and say "Nobody wants to play for Belichick anymore!" but players use whatever leverage they can muster to force their way to a new team ALL THE TIME across the NFL. A big part of BB's mastery is that the Pats have managed that reality well enough to still win 6 titles.

Hard to fault a guy for using the leverage that's earned through greatness. Stardom comes with power -- and, still, it took a while before Gronk could actually use that power. Then he used it at his first chance ... with little regard for loyalty or how it would leave the Pats.

As Duron Harmon heads to Detroit, a quick reminder that by being a good pro he played a huge role in the Patriots winning Super Bowl LIII. This is from my 5 Takeaways after that game:
This was the only way it was realistically ever going to end. You have an unsentimental coach/GM who is always looking to the next move. And you have a QB whose brand is built on proving he can play forever. The signs haven't been there for months. They've been there for years.

The Astros' approach today makes sense if you think more teams are doing *something* but MLB wants to bury it, and the players agreed to not further the story with immunity deal. You say sorry to your own fans -- but not your opponents. You downplay the impact. Makes sense.
Betts, CF Rizzo, 1B Manny, LF A. Gonzalez, DH Hanley, SS Cespedes, RF Garciaparra, 3B Hatteberg, C Sanchez, 2B Lester, SP Can make a damn good lineup of guys the Sox have traded the over the past 20 years. boston.com/sports/boston-red…

The Mookie trade comes down to one question for me: Could they have acquired the same (or equivalent) players while also having him on their team in 2020? I get the logic of dealing him, and the contract hurdle, but if the answer to my question is yes that logic disappears.

I don't know enough about either to fully answer the question at this point. But the established market value for one of them was a 31-year-old who posted a 4.04 ERA in the NL last season and hasn't been a part of the Dodgers' postseason rotation since 2016.

The other is entering what could be a damn good prime, but seems to be a lot closer to Benintendi than Betts, both this year and beyond. And he's already got a back injury at 23. Maybe I'm wrong, but David Price and $50 million couldn't get you that by itself?
