What’s wild is this election just probably gave democrats 3 or 4 new candidates who are stronger in rural and working class America than the vast majority of dems existing bench, but they’re all new politics babies who are unlikely to run in 2028.
Who’s the left candidate in 2028?
- no one knows
- frmer AOC spox tells me if she decides to run, it shouldn’t be bc there’s no one else
- DSA tells me if AOC runs & they consider endorsing her, it’ll be more contentious than when they backed Sanders

Tucker was right.
The Iran war was the most idiotic thing we’ve done in a long time.
It exacerbated the cost of living crisis and made the midterms infinitely worse.
I don’t care if you’re offended. You cost us everything.

In January, the leading pro-Talarico PAC noticed they could have problems in South Texas.
It didn’t take them long to find a winning message.
They quickly went up on air with an anti-ICE ad, before the Talarico campaign was on air w/ immigration messaging. The ad ended up staying on air through October, their longest-running spot — and as headlines about ICE enforcement consumed Texas through the summer, it was a major key to Talarico's victory.
“It really moved voters,” Garry Jones, director of Lone Star Rising PAC, told POLITICO.

Very important point here from Jared Abbott: Democrats did not win by closing the education/class gap, and in fact that gap was quite a bit wider this year than in the 2018 wave.

NEW: @POLITICO spoke with 10 prospective 2028 candidates and people in their orbit about how they’re thinking about AI and tech.

This story is also another data point in the "electoral overperformance" conversation.
Victoria Broderick ran in 2024, and lost by 43.
The district was redrawn, added a bit more Nashville, but still was Trump +24. And she won it.
Is she an overperformer or an underperformer?
Incredible story here.
Victoria Broderick & Lakesha Womack are working-class women; Womack was homeless and living in a motel 7 years ago.
They each spent less than $100k on their races.
They're both going to Congress.

VoteHub obtained North Carolina’s list of voters with provisional ballots still to be counted from the State Board of Elections office. They are heavily Democratic and could help Democrats hold NC-05 and flip NC-03.

Of all the crazy things I’ve seen covering House races for 20 years, watching sitting DCCC and NRCC chairs lose in consecutive midterms is up there.

Dem leaders shouldn’t have to preface their endorsements with “so, you’re not going to endorse the Republican if you lose, right?”
Clyburn in particular has every reason to feel deeply betrayed.

“I think that it was time for her to go,” says @MarkHalperin about Susie Wiles, “for the good of the president and the good of the country and the good of Susie Wiles. All things considered, she knows about politics. She did not defer to other people on the midterms. She ran that thing the way chief of staff does. And it’s really one of the biggest disasters in modern American political history. She presided over it.”

I've gotten a lot of things wrong over the years (including in this election) and I've gotten a lot of things right (including in this election). In my top 3 proudest things, however, is being the OG Blexas guy (from 2019).

based on my lived experience (i know ALL these people) & based on my reporting: we spent a decade in politics sending white folks to cultural reeducation camp.
then, the *excesses* of that 2015-2021 era became so clear & middle class affordability got so bad that: it got ditched

Go back and read it, TNC was arguing that Sanders's class-first approach - which he has now converted the Dems too - was not reckoning enough with race, and he "should be directly confronted" about his timidity in fighting "white supremacy." theatlantic.com/politics/arc…

The populist left won. Compare today's "centrists" and "pragmatists" to what Blue Dog Democrats looked like in 2009. Talarico, Turek, Andrews, Colom, and others all campaigned on economic populism.
Broken record here but the non “progressive movement” candidates have been so class-first/economy pilled that the left starts with fewer distinctions to draw than it started with in 2016. (And even in 2020, Buttigieg showed that a lot of “Medicare for All” voters are fine with the Diet Coke version.)
