In 1978, just a few days before filming was set to begin on the iconic movie Life of Brian, the comedy troupe Monty Python suddenly lost all its funding. That’s when George Harrison decided to step in and finance the entire production with his own money. To do so, the legendary former Beatle even mortgaged his own mansion. His simple yet compelling reason for such a financial gamble was that he simply wanted to see the finished film on the big screen. That brilliant and impulsive show of support did not go unnoticed by the comedy troupe. Eric Idle perfectly summed up the gesture by saying it was “the most expensive movie ticket ever paid for in history.”
