Perhaps the greatest killer of the intellectual is his need to be right. In order to fulfill his calling, which is to be right, his great intellect is put to tremendous use justifying his preferences rather than interrogating them. A tragedy unlike no other.
Ilorin is where my chess story started. It is the place where I found true love in this strange game. Shout out to all my sparring partners in the old days - Yinka Ayinde, Anthony, the guys at Deluxe Entertainment, Wole and IBB, Taiye Abu, Dr. Lukman Adegboye, Oga Lawi, Babajide Tinubu, the three AYs, Karikatalk and so on. You all made me stronger and I remember.
It was heartwarming to return home to play in the Sardauna Open Chess Championship. Winning this one was nice, but it was the memories that came flooding back that made me sentimental.

An anecdote shared by Jorge Njegovic Drndak that I found very revealing of Botvinnik’s character:
“One day, Botvinnik took a taxi to his country house near Moscow. Some time later, the taxi driver returned and handed Botvinnik a bunch of keys that he had found on the back seat of his car after returning to Moscow.
Botvinnik warmly thanked the driver, paid him for the round trip, and immediately went to a locksmith he knew to have all the locks corresponding to the keys on that bunch changed.”
If he didn’t trust an honest man, it’s obvious he trusted no one at all!

One of the lasting measures of leadership is the opportunities that we create for others.
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s @KwankwasoRM commitment to education, particularly the opportunities he has provided for thousands of young Nigerians to study at home and abroad, remains an admirable legacy. Many of these young men and women are today making valuable contributions to our nation and beyond.
As he celebrates his 70th birthday, I join his family, friends and well-wishers in celebrating a life of public service.
I pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) continues to grant him good health, strength and wisdom in the years ahead.
Happy 70th birthday, my dear brother.
Industrialization. Consequences.
Parking tickets, speeding tickets, license checks. Fines, community service and jail terms for crimes.
Executions for embezzlement and bribery in governance, policing.
Legislation that criminalizes tribal and religious discrimination.

It is from the mundane ordinary things that you get to properly understand Nigeria. Drilling a deep water well costs at least $100m but here is the regulator inviting licence winners to come for a 2 day “training”. Who has $100m to spend (with no guarantee of success) and needs “training” on what to do next?
From this we can infer the kind of people who have been awarded the licences…
So you bidded for an oil block, you won, you’ve paid the signature bonus and have been awarded a lease. So what’s the next step?
In the past, many companies were unable to develop their blocks because they lacked the commercial or technical capability.
The consequence of this was that these assets sat idle, depriving the Nigerian people of jobs and the government of revenue.
To change this trend, the NUPRC is for the next two days holding an onboarding programme for the latest awardees of the Petroleum Prospecting Licence (PPL).
Subject matter experts with decades of experience drawn from various departments in the NUPRC as well as external facilitators will provide new licensees with the knowledge that will take them from exploration to first oil.
The entire 2-day event will be streamed live on our social media pages. Follow the NUPRC on X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram to be part of it.

One year.
RIP GM Daniel Naroditsky
Sharing an old video I found, originally uploaded in 2011
As a devoted practitioner of chess, the AI revolution does not scare me. If AI becomes better than humans at everything, that does not matter to us. Neural networks became better than us at chess a long time ago. Changes nothing because the very point of chess is competition between human minds.
In any case, between when we are born and when we die, we are merely trying to find creative ways to pass the time, are we not? Why not play sports/games? If AI truly takes over most jobs as the AI people are threatening, it will be a special time for games. Interesting games. And in that family, chess is King.

Good thought. How about making it fun and interactive, like a board game.
And maybe let's make it wooden, for the haptics.♟️

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.
It was an honour to play the game I love for the national team at the Olympiad in Samarkand. Good fights. Story continues.
