Lee Chang-dong’s Possible Love begins its theatrical run this week. Here’s my review explicating what makes the film “novelistic” and why this is Lee’s most successful attempt yet to translate his literary sensibility into his cinema: reverseshot.org/reviews/entr…
Possible Love

Possible Love

Through its sweeping scope, Possible Love trades the granular analysis of the particulars for a lucid picture of history as a repetitive structure that governs life under capitalism.

What is "anti-poor" is the inconsistency. Street vendors are normally tolerated there because they meet a need, but on whims, government can dismantle their carts back to the stone age kasi "alam nyo naman bawal e" as if di nila pinayagan in the first place

“Nilinis” ng Manila ang Baclaran para sa upcoming ASEAN Summit. Madami nagsasabi na kaya naman pala, bakit hindi gawin permanente. Madami din nagsasabi na if ginawa tong permanente, “anti-poor” eto. Ano sa tingin niyo? Dapat ba ipermanente ang pagtanggal ng side vendors sa Baclaran?

lee chang-dong said the plane engine roar in the background at the cafe was unexpected! a plane actually passed over the set when miok was retelling her childhood, disrupting the emotion so that take made it to the final cut... beautiful accidents that make you believe in #cinema

the cafe scene in possible love full of jeon doyeon natural refreshing aegyo looked innocent on the surface but launched me to the roof... like when you visit a trendy cafe with niche furniture so you have to hurt your neck before taking a sip of your coffee cup on the table LMAO

<your mother your mother your mother> is another film that brought me immense joy this week! huge fan of the storytelling and lighting department most especially. i'm placing my vote in 2026 best performance ballot to mahershala ali as well (this frame sent chills down my spine!)

The trust between longtime collaborators Lee Chang-dong and Sul Kyung-gu is so evident with how quietly, how restrained he plays the notes through the first two acts, just mutual trust on both ends that it will all pay off, and pay off it does.
