Forgot the video
10 years for murdering someone in the street is BS
Dude was at a stop light the killer honked his horn. The victim got out and waved his arms and the killer shot him dead.
The victim was unarmed.
The video was one of forgiveness. The family wanted the max.
The family of a road rage victim in Arizona used his likeness to create a posthumous AI video played at his killer’s sentencing last year.
Now, an appeals court has vacated the sentence, calling the decision to allow the video a “fundamental error.” nbcnews.com/news/us-news/sen…

By “fall from grace” the New York Times meant served 15 months in prison for sexually molesting teenage boys

Dennis Hastert just died. He was the former Republican Speaker of the House. The media is reporting that he went to prison for violating banking laws, but the banking laws he violated were about manipulating records so he could pay off teenage boys he had sexually abused. He was a pedophile, and we shouldn't be dancing around that.

A year ago, the Auditor General found that Ford's government “gave $126 million to questionable applicants who hired well-connected lobbyists — while rejecting others with stronger proposals."
Ford’s fix:
They now require applicants to disclose use of lobbyists.
Real solution:
The NDP is calling for a full investigation and the return of tax dollars that have been squandered.

Why in my 50 years of driving haven’t we managed to set speed limits at a level that we avoid the terrible rates of death and serious injury?
Cars have improved massively, yet their drivers still kill and harm far too many people in and out of cars.
why in my 12 years of driving have speed limits only got slower?
cars have improved massively. yet half the roads in town are 20 now, dual carriageways are 50s, and motorways are still 70, a limit set in 1965 when people were driving ford anglias with drum brakes. they could easily be 80mph or 90mph.
meanwhile abu dhabi fines you for doing under 75mph in the fast lane. and the germans still have stretches of autobahn with no limit at all.

CNN/MSNOW have filed motion asking judge to extend the halt to Trump's White House media ban
They argue: "Defendants have sought to justify the President’s 'ban on the free press' with a series of shifting rationales, lurching from unarticulated standards of professionalism to nebulous and pretextual concerns about protecting national security. But all the while, the President himself has continued telling anyone who will listen precisely what this ban is really about"

Apparently the Cornell 7 - or at least some of them - got together to try and form a defense, including an attempt at doxxing Jane Doe themselves.
They can't remember her.
So I ask again. There is like no chance this woman was their first or only victim right?

If you want to understand why healthcare is so expensive, I'd start with a Supreme Court case about teeth whitening.
Around 2003, spas and small kiosks in North Carolina were offering teeth whitening for a fraction of what dentists charge.
So dentists complained to the state dental board. That dental board looks like this:
- 6 of 8 are practicing dentists, elected by other dentists
- 8 of the 10 who sat on the board during this period earned substantial fees from whitening
The board sent 47+ cease-and-desist letters, warning non-dentists that they're committing a crime by practicing dentistry without a license. The board also sent letters to mall operators, advising them to expel whitening kiosks.
All this worked! These kiosks shut down, prices stayed high, dentists stayed happy.
Regulatory capture like this exists all over in healthcare. What makes this case notable is that someone actually sued the NC dental board, in a case that went all the way to the supreme court.
In a 6-3 ruling, the SC ruled that if a board is run by those who participate in the market without proper supervision - that looks like a cartel, therefore, antitrust law applies.
I have to believe there are so many other potential cases like this in healthcare, just waiting to be pressed on. I'd love to see more of this.

BREAKING
Former Republican House Speaker and serial child molester Dennis Hastert has died.
Hastert admitted in federal court that he sexually abused teenage boys while he was a high school wrestling coach.
He never served prison time for that sexual abuse because the statutes of limitations had expired.
He did, however, serve 13 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to illegally structuring cash withdrawals to evade federal reporting requirements, conduct tied to hush money payments to one of the survivors of his predation.
Hastert was 84.

BREAKING:
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared a statewide disaster emergency over a rapidly growing measles outbreak.
New York has confirmed 108 cases this year, including 92 since July 15.
Pennsylvania is dealing with an extraordinary outbreak: 1,004 confirmed cases so far this year.
For comparison, Pennsylvania recorded just 17 measles cases in all of 2019 and averaged only 4.4 cases a year from 2010–2019.
The New York emergency expands access to MMR vaccinations and measles testing.
And it doesn’t matter that HHS under RFK Jr. has said the MMR vaccine is crucial.
He has been the chief driver of anti-vaccine messaging for many years, and now ordinary Americans are dealing with the consequences of his years of spreading misinformation and disinformation.
