Prime Minister Mark Carney (@MarkJCarney) cites Demis Hassabis’s (@demishassabis) comparison: AI could have the impact of “a hundred industrial revolutions.” Carney says this moment will decide where AI is built, how it’s governed and whom it serves.

Very excited to share Genie 4, our incredible interactive world model, bringing together real-time physics, reasoning, and audio! Simulations within simulations, makes you wonder just how deep the rabbit hole goes... I have a feeling we will be finding out soon enough...

Delighted to see the launch of the UK’s new AI Biosecurity Lab, which @GoogleDeepMind will partner with and support.
As life sciences enter a transformational era, it is essential for researchers, government, and industry to collectively strengthen our biological defences and guide these new capabilities responsibly.
Congratulations to @KanishkaNarayan and the entire team that has worked on making this a reality.
Replying to @KanishkaNarayan
2/7 We're launching a £165m National AI Biosecurity Initiative, including £100m for a world-first AI Biosecurity Lab.
This will harness British scientific expertise and latest AI to detect biological threats and protect people from emerging risks.
As with our @AISecurityInst, I want the new AIBL to lead the world in capability.

Sundar Pichai's explanation for Demis Hassabis stepping back from running DeepMind and Jeff Dean leaving Google:
"You're seeing natural evolutions as people spend their time doing things for a while... I feel proud to have worked together with Jeff for a long time. Obviously, he was seminal in his contributions here, and we're excited to see what he does with Discovery Loop.
I would say you're going through a moment in the industry where frontier model development is an all-consuming thing. We've had broad AI research, AGI research, and so on, but frontier model development is all-consuming. It's moving, picking up pace, and it's a very scaled operation, all the way from data and compute to the algorithmic work you do, to managing the teams and your model agents. I think it's become an important job in its entirety.
Demis has obviously been thinking about this moment for a long time. He's particularly interested in both how you go through this frontier moment safely and how you apply it to solve other problems. The work he did with AlphaFold and what we are doing now with Isomorphic are examples of how you can apply AGI to solve other problems... I think he wants to spend more of his time on those things"
Sundar Pichai on Gemini 4 and the AI compute crunch
Even Google can’t get enough compute. I sit down with Google and Alphabet CEO @sundarpichai shortly after the wider release of Gemini 4 Argon to discuss its early reception, where he still wants the model to improve, and what it takes to keep Google at the frontier of AI.
Pichai explains the recent leadership shakeup at Google DeepMind and why building frontier models has become an “all-consuming” job. We also get into Google’s answer to the personal agent race, how he predicts Gemini will do more work on your behalf, and whether agents will finally bring Search, Gmail, and Gemini together.
I ask him about Google turning free cash flow negative, the risks in the AI infrastructure buildout, and how he plans for demand years before knowing what the models will be capable of. He explains the signals giving him confidence to keep spending and how he uses AI agents to follow model development and compute usage inside Google.

Honoured to be featured in the @WSJ Innovators Issue. I’ve always believed in the power of human ingenuity to solve our hardest problems. I’m confident we can collectively navigate the potential challenges of frontier models and usher in a new golden age of scientific discovery!
From childhood prodigy to AI pioneer to Nobel Prize winner, Demis Hassabis has always had a simple plan. Step one, solve intelligence. Step two, solve everything else. 🔗 on.wsj.com/4i0Axoo

The non-disparagement clauses in Google's UK employment contracts are indeed incredibly broad. This is from the Confidentiality and Proprietary Information Agreement I signed in 2024 before I started.
It forbids any criticism forever (regardless if it's true or not)

Very nice accolade from Barnes & Noble. I have to say that the reception for The Infinity Machine has been amazing.
After speaking to audiences about @demishassabis in the US, Europe and Asia, I have found that young readers are inspired by his scientific and entrepreneurial journey, old readers appreciate his groundedness, and all readers feel a kind of reassurance from understanding the motivations and values of the original AI lab leader.
gemini 4 looks remarkably strong at robotics
i keep saying that demis has been playing a different game here, focusing less on coding and more on world models and understanding the physical world and that bet could pay off massively in the long run
don't count google out just yet
Isomorphic Labs wants to turn its technology into an engine for new medicines. The question now is whether — and how — it can deliver on that promise. trib.al/YBxnZAh

Amazing to see research move from the lab to real-world clinical utility - congrats to the team on this milestone & @TheLancet paper!
Today @TheLancet published our AMIE study with @BIDMC_Medicine, the first prospective study of patient-facing conversational diagnostics in a real clinic.
AMIE is a research system people can chat with before doctors appointments. Testing AMIE outside the lab with real urgent care patients showed how technology can help gather medical histories safely. Clinicians reported that the summaries helped them prepare for visits in 75% of cases and influenced their approach to care in more than half. AMIE’s differential diagnoses also matched the doctors’ final diagnoses 90% of the time giving clinicians more time to focus on patient care.
It’s Google’s first-ever paper in The Lancet’s main journal!

Great results from an exceptional model.
A great example of the positive impact of AI. This is why we at @GoogleDeepMind make advancing science a core focus!
Google Deepmind (FNV3) CRUSHED the forecast for #Isaias up to 11 days in advance. It picked up some appreciable signal on September 23, locked in on the exact landfall location4 days before it happened, and nailed the peak intensity consistently 3 days before it happened. A new age of forecasting is upon us.
