Social media bans are ineffective because kids will always find ways around them. A better approach is to require social media companies to develop safer platforms for children. Protecting kids is pretty straightforward and a matter of willpower, not technical difficulty.
This is just incredible. I love it. Via @caseymlewis:

I'LL SAY IT AGAIN: IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL to charge a "convenience fee" for paying a bill online. The convenience is for the company. The fee is for you.

Birthday parties. Funerals. Hospital visits. We're raising our kids to attend anything they're invited to that's meaningful to someone else, even if they might prefer doing something else. Always go to the funeral. npr.org/2005/08/08/4785079/a…
We had RSVPd as a maybe to a birthday party this weekend because of some schedule conflicts and the mom texted me today to say that she hopes we can come and almost no one has responded, 10/10 communication, we will be there queen 🫡

It’s so funny when people see what a REAL interview should look like, and how riffing and following up naturally occur instead of the forced question after question from your favs

He said the second thing is to put one in your travel bag and enable Share Item Location with airlines. Apple has partnered with more than 50 airlines — including Delta, United, British Airways, Lufthansa, Qantas, and Singapore Airlines — that accept a temporary location link from your AirTag when your bag goes missing . "You go into Find My, tap the AirTag in your luggage, scroll down to Lost Item, and tap Share Item Location. It generates a link you give to the baggage desk. They see where your bag is on a map. The share stops automatically when you get the bag back, or after seven days" . He said the data on this feature is striking. "SITA, the company that runs the WorldTracer system most airlines use, reported that for bags carrying an AirTag with location sharing enabled, the number of truly lost bags fell by 90 percent. Airlines using the feature also recovered delayed bags 26 percent faster" .

This is better written than any @nbcsnl episode so far this season. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
We’re not sure the new Saturday Night Live writers will be able to make it to showtime! 😴

We humans are going to have to decide whether jobs exist simply to accomplish tasks or if employment as a social technology is worth preserving to maintain social order. Because companies are making decisions with heavy social consequences based on their own economic incentives.
Rumors that chili maker Lao Gan Ma laid off 500+ workers due to AI have gone viral in China. Beneath Beijing’s positive messaging, many ordinary Chinese people are worried about AI and jobs. Lao Gan Ma recently touted a new AI-powered chili inspection system that uses high-speed industrial cameras that significantly outperform manual inspection. A stat about the company using this AI system to reduce human inspectors from 600 to 48 went viral on Chinese social media. The iconic, family-run company pushed back. But if you look at the data, the company has reduced headcount from 2,912 to 740 in the past few years while earning record revenues. Original story: m.jiemian.com/article/152425…
