The Odeon in Beckenham, south London, will show its last films at the end of November. Odeon is leaving under an agreement with its landlord, and the building's owner, Citygate Church, has said it plans to apply to Bromley Council to turn it into a place of worship. Neighbors formed Save Our Screen, the Friends of Beckenham Cinema, to keep films on the High Street. More than 13,500 people have signed their petition, and 373 donors have given over £10,000. The Art Deco cinema opened as the Regal on September 22, 1930, designed by Robert Cromie, and is Grade II listed. Citygate says it would restore the building, and no planning application has been filed yet. The campaign is seeking interest from cinema operators, and it has nominated the cinema as an Asset of Community Value. Want to help?
