A vote is a hire, not a jersey. Today you'll stand at a folding booth with a short pen and a sheet full of ovals, and the noise of the last six months will be in your head. Both sides. All of it. Underneath the noise is a quieter question most people never say out loud: does my one oval even matter? Here's the frame I've spent my whole career on to understand why people buy anything. It works just as well in that booth. People don't buy products. They hire them to make progress in their lives. Nobody wants a drill. They want the hole, and really the shelf, and really the room to finally feel finished. Voting is the same act. You're not picking a person. You're hiring progress: safer streets, cheaper groceries, a school that works, a tax that makes sense, a road that finally gets fixed. Whichever progress you want, the ballot is the hire. And every hire has two parts people forget. First, when you hire something, you fire something. The old way goes, and whatever it was quietly doing for you goes with it. Second, every hire comes with consequences you didn't order. Russ Ackoff taught me that you never change one part of a system. You change the whole system, and the whole system answers back. Build the new school and the tax shows up. Cut the regulation and the thing it was holding back shows up. Fix the road and the traffic finds it. None of this is a reason not to act. It's a reason to act with your eyes open. Deming put it harder: a bad system will beat a good person every time. You're not hiring a person. You're hiring the system they'll sit inside. So before you fill in the first oval, four questions: 1. What progress am I hiring? Say it as an outcome, not a name. "I want ___ to be easier, cheaper or safer by next November." 2. What am I firing? What does this hire replace, and what was the old way doing for me that I'll lose? 3. What consequence didn't I order? Name one thing that could get worse because of what I want to get better. 4. Knowing that, would I still make the hire? If yes, vote with your eyes open. If no, you just learned something before the ballot instead of after it. One more thing, and this is the part you can argue with: not voting is also a hire. You're hiring whatever everyone else decides, and you've waived your say in the consequences. Progress never comes from the perfect candidate. It comes from people who know what they're hiring, what they're firing, and what might come with it, and who show up anyway. Before you go, finish this sentence in the comments. Not who. What. "Today I'm hiring ___ so that ___ gets better." Think deeper, care more — makes for bigger impacts.

You can be against Nick Fuentes AND Candace Owens AND Zohran Mamdani AND Jay Jones all at the same time. This is not a choice of Left vs. Right but of Good vs. Evil. Never support evil, no matter how it claims to align politically.

Hey @AppleSupport, I have a feature request: markup for ebooks (not just PDFs) in Apple Books. I really want to be able to use my Apple Pencil to take notes in a book on iPad. I neeeeed it.

I could see it working where mark-up is tied to words as opposed to a “page” so that the text can be reflowed like normal, but any mark-up can still be overlayed.

I just fell for one of the best scams I've seen on X. Here's what you need to know (and how to avoid it):

At Amazon, Jeff Bezos told us to "not compromise for the sake of social cohesion." I saw him tolerate lengthy, exhausting arguments as a result. When I was a director, my VP constantly argued with Jeff and refused to back down.

I don't like the new iPhone default reactions. The cartoony/dull look is not as good as the clean iconic look, IMO.

Huge insight from Patrick Moran about just how pervasive gaming is in the lives of younger generations. All around amazing talk. Biggest takeaway: If you completely ignore gaming, chances are your company will one day no longer be relevant. #ProductFestRVA2024 @rvatechcouncil

Awesome principle I put in my notebook from Mike Thomas of Upstream 360 that anyone who has worked with me knows I am hardcore about: Get your product message down to the three second wow. You earn more time from there. @rvatechcouncil #ProductFestRVA2024
