A strangely peculiar inadequacy of expression has often encircled me when I have attempted to say something about Nirmal Verma. This essay has been written from a spring of no small effort to attempt to do justice to the legacy of the great writer that Nirmal Verma was. I hope it has not been in vain. Please read here:

Kannadiga intellectual U.R. Ananthamurthy once observed that whenever a Liberal grows bored, he tends to become a Conservative. Some might argue that this observation might well apply to Hindi Modernist writer Nirmal Verma.

Still haven't quite forgotten day when we watched Kohli's first century against NZ in the school hostel.
God, it's been so long!

The Bihar Museum has been ranked No. 1 in Asia and among the world’s best!
This is a proud moment for Bharat, bringing its glorious civilisational legacy into the global spotlight. True to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision of ‘Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi’, Bihar is embracing modern development while rekindling pride in its rich heritage and cultural identity.
If with a bitter mouth you will speak sweet words,
the world will neither sweeten nor become more bitter.
And it is written in the book that we shall not fear.
And it is also written,
that we shall change,
like the words,
in future and in past,
in the plural or in the solitary.
And soon in the coming nights we shall appear,
like wandering minstrels,
each in the other's dream.
And in these dreams
will be strangers
we did not know together.

In this article, @anon_amo takes us through the Iranian revolution and how the black-red alliance crafted a symphony of anarchy which led to the end of a 2500 old monarchial institution, based on their common theological hatred for the monarchy, and its parallel's in India, where instead of black, the color could have been or could be blue.

MLC elections in 28 seats across 4 big states - Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Karnataka.
Elections held using ballot papers.
Guess how many seats Congress won? 🧐
Apparently, these elections where Congress lost all 28 seats was held on ballot paper. The fact that Sardesai doesn't state.
REALITY CHECK: 28 MLC seats, Congress wins ZERO — including the loss of a sitting member’s seat in Karnataka.
MLC elections are not a direct reflection of voter mood, but they do offer clues to regional power equations, party organisation and the local level challenges facing Congress. Zero wins across 28 seats is a result the party cannot afford to ignore.🙏

Navratri to Diwali should be a nationwide holiday like how the Chinese have their own New Year. Best time of the year.
The kind of courtesy they opulently display for Christmas and New year should have been generously extended to Hindu festivals as well, is asking for a little consistency too much now?

The season of festivals has been converted into the season of protests. The disruption of trade and normal life has been normalised even in the best days of the year but the charade of love for trade continues. Baffling stuff!

Census 2011 says 31% of India is Urban, while World Bank and UN estimate it to be 55% and 63% respectively. So, why does India underestimate its urban population?
@SpatialIndia argues that the fault lies with the Census’s two-box urban/rural classification criteria and calls for a third category for areas in transition.

After Nirmal Verma died, many of his readers travelled from Jodhpur to Delhi with Vijaydana Detha for his funeral:
