Tomorrow #SchoolofThings will witness the power of this fully armed and operational temperature/humidity/light/sound sensor!!! #cpsSTEM @particle – at Chicago, IL
Three and a half years ago we proposed a data science class that incorporates social science and community awareness. We finally finished our first capstone project. Computer Science (and data science!) have an impact on communities!
This year our CATCS data science class analyzed and created messaging on the counterfeit pill danger that is putting young people at risk. Many thanks to @DEACHICAGODiv and @SongforCharlie for their help and support!
Many thanks to @DEACHICAGODiv , @jeppdx , @SongforCharlie , @Ed_Ternan , and @LuisRAgostini for their help and support as our students explored data and knowledge on the fentanyl pill crisis. Students saw the evidence and found ways to alert their communities.

JUST IN: CPS students will start the new school year at home next month as officials plan to announce as soon as Wednesday that they’ll back off a proposal that would have put children in classrooms two days a week. bit.ly/2PBZokB
Would you like to see the awesome stuff my students will be working on in our new high school data science course this fall? Open to the public, you can virtually meet with teachers working on building computational thinking into STEM classes.
TODAY, 12 to 2pm Central.
Been working with a fantastic team to bring computational thinking into other disciplines. I'm working on a COVID-centered unit to use data visualizations as a tool. Our expo on Friday (7/31) is open to the public from 12 to 2 Central. Check it out!

Still don't know if we are starting remotely, but this looks like a great start remote or in a socially distanced room.

I'm (not?) surprised that this is up for debate--Senate is looking to pass next #stimulus bill with restrictions on lawsuits against #colleges. If a #college is open and implying safety they need to be held accountable. Every effort should be put into protecting lives. #covid19

ALT The letter subject is: OPPOSE Immunity for Colleges from COVID-19 Lawsuits and the body is: Colleges are welcoming students in the fall and promising safety. If schools are not safe, they should not be let off the hook from liability! Do NOT allow schools to be immune to lawsuit, and protect students, faculty, and staff! Make sure the upcoming stimulus bill does not let colleges play fast and loose with the lives of those who will be there!

I'm genuinely concerned that not only could students and staff get hurt, but by students knowing that they were the vector that infected and harmed someone in their family. That would be devastating to a student's mental health. @CTULocal1 #COVID19 #SchoolReopening
