NEW: After a Longhorns win 9/12, @UTAustin celebrated, posting an “apply now!” link & tracking who posted a photo with PJD (UT’s Jim Davis)
But 9/13, when Bo French posted a racist tweet about its student, UT was quiet. What happened behind the scenes⬇️

The Trump administration’s ideological attacks on public media and education converge at university-based radio stations. Some are breaking free, writes Lucy Schiller. cjr.org/feature/all-theyre-g…

🤔We already had a guardian of the Core—called the Undergraduate College. Davis shuttered it & fired dozens of staff experienced in undergraduate curriculum, teaching & learning. This move is not innovative but the correction of a callous mistake that has wreaked havoc on campus.
NEW: @UTAustin @JimDavis_UT announces a new “University College” to be “the guardian of the new core curriculum,” led by inaugural dean Devin Stauffer, faculty fellow at the Civitas Institute and a government professor.
Stauffer chaired the core curriculum task force.

Judging from how the new core has been designed & administered so far, this “guardian” is designed to supervise our world-class faculty, dictate what we teach & how we teach it, & substitute censorship for faculty creativity. Not a recipe for a university of the first class.

We're a bit behind on our fall fundraising goal at @MarfaRadio - if you believe in independent journalism for rural West Texas, I hope you'll make a contribution: marfapublicradio.org/donate
Today is the final day of membership drive for @KUT and @KUTX . Although I’m no longer there, I’m still a supporter. No one does storytelling, accountability journalism, and documenting of life in Austin like our beloved public radio stations. Please donate.KUT.org

Texan Joe Rogan confessing he doesn't know enough about AG Ken Paxton -- maybe the most scrutinized official in his state -- makes one question why so many young men value his political opinions.
Ron White on Ken Paxton: “He’s a criminal. Just a piece of shit”
Joe Rogan: “I don’t know enough about him, but I do know they’re surprised Talarico’s ahead of him in the polls”
Ron White: “I’m not. I think people are sick of what’s going on right now in Texas. They’ve been in control for 30 years, what have they given us? Let somebody else fucking drive. They’re jacking with my marijuana, I’m ready to get em out”

Get ready to ROCK THE PARK! The fall season returns September 25th! kutx.org/rockthepark
Oh, not the University of Texas being unprepared for an event… Where was the crack team of Tower bullies that harassed KUT over our little festival when the university was inadequately planning today’s event for some 50,000 folks on campus?

One 14-year-old girl dropped off by an AISD bus can get home by walking along Loop 360 with no sidewalk, an hour down a trail, or by cutting across Bull Creek and steep concrete embankments.
It's the new hub system.

The @KUT and @TexasStandard teams each won a National Murrow Award — another year where the KUT newsroom took home two of the biggest radio awards in the country. Congrats! Also, shout out to @MarfaRadio, which took home a National Murrow in the small mkt category for podcast.

Extraordinary afternoon in federal court today in NYC as the NYT challenged federal subpoenas for its reporters' testimony and phone records.
Federal prosecutors wilted in the face of unrelenting Qs from Judge Subramanian and agreed to drop the subpoenas. More to follow.

NEW from @England_Weber: In light of @UTAustin firing @dhiott, discussions are heating up about separating @KUT from the university. But that would be pretty complicated. Here's what to know:

It’s funny, sorta: I used to be able to call up the Big Bend National Park superintendent for quick interviews on just about anything. Now the park’s facing an unprecedented border barrier plan and the National Park Service is declining to comment at all. Different times for sure
